Hello friends! Today I want to do a Coach Signature shoulder bag review; this is a vintage coach bag which is a classic silhouette from the brand. It is a discontinued style, but as a Coach bag collector, I thought it was an important one to review as it’s reality available on the preloved market and a really affordable style. Plus it’s an easy, comfortable, practical bag from coach which is a great every day bag or a great ‘first bag’. - Unstructed
- No feet at the base so it can’t be stood up
- Can be cleaned, but it’s not as hardwearing or easily cleanable as leather bags are
- Only available on the preloved market
- Doesn’t hold it’s value as much as other vintage Coach bags
- More of a summer bag than winter bag
Coach Signature Shoulder Bag Review
I have over 100 Coach bags and whilst this bag isn’t my favourite, it’s definitely one that I use more than others. Mainly because it’s a super easy, lightweight and practical. It is great for filling with everything I need and throwing over my shoulder and cracking on with my life. It is a bag I don’t need to worry about or ‘baby’ and it somehow goes with every single outfit. Is it the most beautiful or the more interesting design, no, but is it practical and looks good, yes.
I feel like this bag is more commonly seen worn as a crossbody bag, and whilst it is really practical worn this way, I personally think it looks better as a shorter shoulder bag. Especially in the summer months. Also, it’s on the larger size as a crossbody bag, so if you are very petite, you might find it suits you better worn as a short shoulder bag than a crossbody bag too. However, it’s nice to have the option of wearing it both ways!
The coach signature shoulder bag is a really simple bag design, essentially just a square with a strap. So whilst the monogram adds interest, sometimes I do feel the need to jazz it up a little and I think it lends itself really well to wearing bag charms with it. The Y2k minimalist girls probably love it plain, but for us maximalist girlies, it’s super fun to add more to and I think it looks great this way.
This bag makes a great everyday handbag, I know for me I have some really fancy designer bags like a Gucci marmont or Chanel Classic flap bags, but I don’t really see them as suitable for every day. So I like this bag for running day-to-day errands and those other bags for when I want to go for something fancier. It’s also perfect for festivals because its light but surprisingly spacious and it’s also perfect for younger girlies as a ‘first’ handbag. Another bag which is a great first bag and everyday bag is the dinky, but this one fits more in and is lightweight. The dinky is cuter though!
I guess the biggest criticism for this bag is that it doesn’t have feet at the base, but if I was sat on a train I would have it on my knee and if I was at lunch, I would probably be using a different bag. But it is something to consider. As for cleaning it, it’s easier to clean than silk, but less easy to get tough marks out of than leather. That being said, my bag is around 15 years old and still looks fantastic!
All in all, it’s not the most beautiful coach bag I own, but it is the most practical and easy and comfortable. Everything about it is effortless, including the slightly wider strap which is made of webbing. It’s so comfortable. If you find it for a great price, I’d 100% recommend buying it. And just as a reminder, my bag is 15 years old and still going strong, which is probably all you need to know! n
