Micro trend: Men’s ties on women’s handbags

Hello friends! Today I want to share a micro trend I’ve been loving… using mens ties on women’s handbags. It’s cute, unexpected and super thrifty! I’ve bought a few mens ties recently and today I’m going to share a few ways to wear them! Let’s chat!

why you should customise your bag

  • it’s a fun and affordable trend to opt into
  • it adds personality to your outfit & bag
  • wrapping scarves, twillies and ties around the handles will help protect the handles from strain and discolouration
  • it will keep your handbag exciting and stop you for buying more bags than you need
  • If you are struggling to match your bag to your outfit, adding a coloured scarf to your bag will help tie it together

i came across this trend on tik tok and I loved it, it was whimsical, fun and unexpected. I think a men’s tie looks really fun knotted around a handle in the same way that a twilly would, although instead of it costing over £50 for a nice twilly, it’s more like £1 for a silk tie at a charity shop. Similarly I love them tied into a simple bow, the length gives a good sized bow and you can tell it’s a men’s tie from the tails, but it adds a little masculinity to your handbag.

You can also twist a tie on itself to make a decorative extra strap (although I’m not sure I would actually use it as a strap!) and you can tie bag charms off each end too. But seriously, have a play around and see what you come up with, there’s so many options! If you can do it with a twilly, you can do it with a tie!

Why you should add a mens tie to your handbag

  • it adds a touch of masculine energy to a feminine handbag
  • It’s cheaper than a twilly
  • the colours & prints are endless
  • It’s a fun way to wear a sentimental fashion item which you wouldn’t normally know how to style
  • it’s unique and unexpected
  • Silk twill (which is what most ties are made of) is great quality and long lasting
  • It’s a sustainable way to try a fleeting fashion trend
