The mum guide to getting party ready! very.co.uk AD

Hello friends! Today I want to have a chat about getting party ready… as a mum! Trust me! This is no small task! I think I’ve got the ultimate guide to getting ready, feeling confident and doing it all with a toddler in tow. Let’s chat!

Monsoon bow dress

Choose a silhouette you love

My top tip for occasion wear is to pick a silhouette that you feel good in. Just because the stores push backless and strapless dresses on us, doesn’t mean we have to wear them! Personally I love a black midi dress with a tiny bit of cleavage and a sleeve. What can I say, I’m in my 40’s and I think midi dresses are chic and I no longer want to get my arms out!

My dress is from very.co.uk who honestly have SO many stunning party dresses. It’s well worth checking them out if you have a work dinner or party to go to. I think my dress looks fancy and fabulous, whilst still giving me a silhouette I adore! I love the shape of the skirt, the slight puff sleeve, the texture of the fabric and of course, the giant bow! It’s perfect! I actually got this exact dress in a different fabric earlier this year to wear to a wedding, so I know it’s a shape and design I feel great in! If it’s nice, go twice! Also, very.co.uk are one of my fave places to shop for size inclusive fashion, they have so many brands and such a great variety of sizes, which they carry plenty of stock in! Does anyone else get really fed up of stores selling out of amazing plus size dresses super quick because they didn’t order enough?! Well, Very have your back!!

Big hair = Big confidence

Let’s chat hair! I’m a firm believer the hair theory; big hair gives big confidence! Who’s got the time for a professional blow out? Not me! So, get the dry shampoo and curling tongues and get busy!

Brows, lips, highlighter

If you only have ten minutes to do a full face of make up, then don’t worry, you can do it! My advice would be to let your natural skin shine through, and just use a little foundation and concealer where you need it, and finish it up with some glowy face mist. Then go hard with the highlighter, red lipstick and big brows. Effortless and fabulous!

Wear shoes you can walk in

Ladies! The 2000’s are behind us and so are those sky high platforms! Instead, go for cute shoes which you can walk in, maybe they have a heel, maybe they don’t! Whatever works for you! Shoes are a fantastic place to work some festive sparkle into your look as well! Also, on that note, we aren’t 18 years old anymore and wanting to save £1 on paying for a cloakroom, so get yourself a fabulous faux fur coat! Not only will you feel super glam when you make your entrance, but you will be nice and warm if you find yourself in a queue, taxi rank or walking from one venue to another!

Confidence looks good on you!

Finally, it’s important to remember confidence looks good on you! So walk with a little swag, smile your brightest smile, pose for all the photos and have an amazing time! You’re a mum and you’re having a rare night out with your friends, so enjoy it and feel confident that you look amazing, because I know you do!

Thank you so much for reading my post on getting party ready as a mum! This post was written in collaboration with very.co.uk and I’m so proud to be working with them on this project! Thank you Very!
