New season, new styling… & new fashion resolutions!
Hello friends! As we move into a new season I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some new clothes and how I plan to style them from late summer, into autumn and winter. I also want to share my top tips for wearing nice dresses throughout the coldest months, without freezing your butt off!!
As I’m sure you know by now, I’m a serial outfit repeater, and I would always rather buy pieces I adore and will wear for years, rather than constantly be buying new, poorly made fast fashion pieces. To get the most out of your wardrobe, you have to get creative with layering!!
My autumn / Winter style resolution
Before we get started, I just want to share where I’m at with my style right now. Nearly four years ago I had a baby and like a lot of women, I really felt like I lost my sense of style in the process.
Now that I’m almost 4 years into motherhood, I finally feel like I have a tiny bit of free time to get dressed and once in a while, I even go somewhere nice! I’ve also invested in some new pieces which have given my pre-baby wardrobe a new lease of life.
So, here’s my new season style resolution: when the temperature drops, I will not reach for baggy leggings and a slouchy old jumper. Instead, I will layer up my cute dresses with a secret layer of thermals, a beautiful silk scarf, pretty knits, mittens & berets. That my friends, is my personal new season resolution!
How to stay warm in the winter (whilst still looking cute!)
- Where possible wear water resistant footwear and trainers with a thick sole to keep your feet away from puddles. I’m Converse girl and these lift version are perfect for winter they keep you well away from puddles. If converse aren’t your thing, then very have an incredible selection of women’s trainers and again, there’s something for every style and budget.
- Add sheepskin insoles to your favourite shoes for extra warmth. Trust me! It works!
- Wear thermals under your cute dresses (don’t be afraid to size up in your dresses to make room for them!)
- Natural fibres are cosier than polyester
- Silk scarves and berets are a great way to accessorise and whilst adding extra warmth
- Wear your dresses as skirts by adding a jumper over the top. Lots of people avoid doing this because they don’t feel like their jumpers sit well over a dress, if this is the case try adding a belt, or grab a hair bobble, a give the jumper a bun at the back of the waist and tuck the excess fabric away. Trust me! It works!
As for my dresses…
I know you will want to know about my dresses, because let’s be honest, they are SO good!!! They are all from Monsoon at Very.co.uk, and honestly, Very have the BEST selection of women’s dresses this season for all shapes, styles and budgets. I’m a size 18 and these dresses all fit me perfect and they are available in up to a size 24. So if you are worried they aren’t size inclusive, you are wrong!
Monsoon Mabli Tea Dress
This is the perfect dress for a fancier event, like a wedding or an afternoon tea in beautiful hotel. I absolutely love the design and it’s such an easy dress to style up as it does the hard work for you! To a more formal even I would wear boots in the winter or Mary Jane’s in warmer months. But to dress it down for every day, it’s perfect with converse! I love this dress so much!
Monsoon Agatha Check Dress
I could not resist the lure of this dress! It is so cute with its checked plum-coloured print, puff sleeves and bow front detail. It’s perfect for autumn / winter and super cosy! I added a leather belt from a charity shop and a trench coat for rainy days.
Monsoon Yasmina Floral Dress
I was instantly drawn to this dress for the stunning print! It was giving vintage Liberty or House Of Hackney vibes and I loved the warm colour wallet. The fabric is 100% cotton and it’s wonderfully thick so it hangs beautifully and is really cosy.
This is one of the most fun dresses to play around with, as it looks so good with a cute knitted jumper, neck scarf or cute jacket! Oh and it’s really easy to get in and out of as it has a very subtle front zip! You would never know it was there as it’s so concealed, but it’s very handy and a cute throwback to similar styles of vintage dresses, which also zipped up at the front.
I’m a serial outfit repeater and I know I will have these three dresses on rotation all autumn / winter long… with thermals, of course!
