Preparing For Your New Baby Is A Doddle
If you’re going to be having a baby, we want to say congratulations! It’s always nice when you get to bring a new little one into the world for you to love and look after, so it’s super exciting that you get to do that now. But, you also have to look into the practical side of things and ensure that you’ve got everything sorted for their arrival.
There’s no need for you to start getting stressed or panicking about this as there are ways that you can do this without making it too complicated. You really do just need to stay calm and go through it all one step at a time. To make it a little easier for you, we’re going to be doing just that down below. Follow along with us, and it should take at least some of the stress out of the process for you, turning it into a doddle!
Budget
We want to kick this off by talking about your budget. Babies are expensive, they need a lot of items, and it’s important that you are able to get them what they need so that they can thrive. For example, you’re going to need diapers, wipes, clothes, blankets, somewhere for them to sleep and so much more and it just all adds up. For some people the cost can be quite overwhelming and that’s when it starts to get a little too much.
But, if you can manage to purchase things for your baby over the time that you are pregnant, this helps you to spread the cost out so that it’s not just one massive hit to you. You can even start purchasing things for when they are a little older, like clothes in bigger sizes to ensure that you are covered as much as you can be.
Of course, this isn’t going to be possible forever, but when the time comes it all catches up with you, sit down and work out what you have, set your budget, and then stick to it.
Birth Plan
The thing with birth plans is that so many of them end up going out of the window because unexpected things happen during labor, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have one. In fact, you should definitely always have a birthing plan, you should just always think of it as a best case scenario rather than anything else. If everything goes well and according to plan then this is the plan that will be followed, but make it with the knowledge that it might not and things might have to change.
Creating your birthing plan means thinking about what kind of delivery you would ideally like, what kind of pain relief you would like, where you would like to give birth and so on. All of this information should be recorded on the birth plan so that your team of carers know what you would like and what your wishes are.
Crib or Cot
Are you going to have your baby sleeping in a crib or a cot? This is down to personal preference to be honest, you just need to get one or the other and get it set up before your little one arrives. As long as you are following the safe sleeping guidelines, that’s all that really matters here. If you don’t know what these are, then we suggest that you do some research into safe sleeping so that you can ensure you’re keeping your little one as safe as possible.
Safe sleeping guidelines generally include making sure there is nothing in the sleeping area that can be pulled over their face, that it’s secure so they can’t get out, and so on.
Breast/Bottle/Both
One thing you will need to decide is which feeding method you are going to use. There is always talk about breast is best so you may feel extra pressure to breastfeed. However, if you aren’t able to due to supply issues or medical needs then the bottle is perfectly fine. Formula has come a long way since it first began and they are now pretty close to matching it perfectly. Your baby will get all their goodness and nutrition in the early days from their milk, make sure they are getting enough or you could be facing issues with weight loss.
Do Your Research
As a parent you may not know much about children or their development journey, you are quite literally thrown in at the deep end. However, thanks to the internet and other parents you now have access to so much knowledge. Knowledge is power and it can be a good idea to take a peek at milestones before your little one arrives. You may have looked online for when do babies start to crawl. You will notice that milestones in children come with a big age bracket, so don’t panic if your 9 month old isn’t crawling yet. However, if you are concerned or worried about anything to do with your wonderful baby then always get it checked out. Parental intuition is a thing, and it is usually right.
Baby Proof Your Home
Finally, there will come a time when your baby is on the move and interested in everything they shouldn’t be. This includes shelves and cupboards, unfortunately furniture doesn’t already come safe for babies. You need to babyproof your home in order to keep your little delight safe and sound. This includes placing locks on all cupboards so they don’t get to the contents, which could be dangerous.
You can buy ready made sets for baby proofing, these will come with cupboard locks, oven locks, and corner protectors. They might also have door wedges so your little one’s fingers don’t get trapped.
