How To Improve The Appearance Of Your Hair With These 10 Tips

If you’re staring in the mirror, looking at your hair with a look of disappointment, you’re not alone. It’s very rare for many of us to have a good hair day, although many of us wish that we could achieve a great hair day every day.

However, your hair’s appearance is very much influenced by a varied amount of factors. From how many days since it’s been washed to the products you’re using on your hair. Not only that but during certain times of the year, your hair might be affected due to the increase in moisture in the air or the lack thereof.

Improving the appearance of your hair unfortunately takes a bit of work on your end. However, if you’re willing to invest some time into your hair, then you could certainly make a noticeable difference to it. Here are some helpful tips to improve the appearance of your hair with these ten tips.

Know what hair type and texture you have

Firstly, before you start investing in your hair, it’s important to know exactly what type of hair you have. Just saying you have straight or curly hair is not enough. There are a number of different hair types and patterns that are worth knowing.

Firstly, you have 1-4 types. These describe the texture of your hair:

  • Type 1 – straight
  • Type 2 – wavy
  • Type 3 – curly
  • Type 4 – coils

You’ll then have three types of sub-divisions when it comes to the pattern type of your hair. These are labeled A-C.

  • Type A – wider pattern
  • Type B – medium-size pattern
  • Type C – small size pattern

Assessing your hair closely and perhaps doing some research online to identify your hair type is the first step. That way, you can invest in the right tools, products, and methods to get the best out of your hair every day.

Avoid or lower heat exposure

Heat exposure to your hair, regardless of the hair type can be damaging. That’s why it’s important to try and avoid heat exposure to the hair in any way possible.

For example, if you’re someone who straightens their hair, curls it, or blowdries it on a regular basis, then you’re likely to see more damage to your hair.

The same goes for spending time out in the sun and not applying any heat protectant spray or SPF spray that will also help keep the scalp protected.

Where possible, try to avoid heat exposure or lower the heat exposure that your hair and head experience. There are plenty of heatless methods to dry and style your hair, so it might be worth doing this instead of using heat tools.

Of course, you don’t need to do this all the time, especially if you have favorites when it comes to heat tools. However, using them less frequently will make a big difference to your hair quality.

Use the right shampoo and conditioning treatments

The right shampoo and conditioning treatment is important to use when it comes to treating your hair to the very best. Try to avoid any sulfates in your haircare products, especially when it comes to washing your hair.

Sulfates can end up stripping away all the goodness that your hair naturally produces. From the nutrients to the natural oils, you want both of these to be forever present in your hair at all times. The type of products you use in your hair can impact the health of your hair as a result of this.

It might become a case of trial and error when it comes to using the right shampoo and conditioning treatments. However, it’s beneficial to go through this stress and ordeal to find the right products that will wash your hair without doing too much damage to it.

Stimulate your scalp for hair growth

A good way to help your hair growth is by stimulating your scalp. After all, your scalp is where all of the new hair growth comes from, so the more you focus on this area, the better. Shampoo for oily hair might be helpful to invest in if you fall into this category, as it can help ensure your hair follicles within the scalp aren’t becoming clogged up with excess oil.

You may have a dry and flaky scalp, which means you want to apply more oils to it. Rosemary oil is considered to be a good type of oil to put into your hair, but make sure to use a carrier oil to dilute Rosemary. For example, jojoba oil or coconut oil is an example of a good carrier oil.

There are tools that you can get that massage your hair in the form of brushes that you can use in the shower or after you’ve showered. Alternatively, if you’re looking to save money, just opt for massaging your scalp with your fingers instead!

By stimulating your scalp, you’re going to encourage hair growth and it’s likely to do wonders for your growth and the amount of growth you achieve over a short period of time.

Take hair vitamins

Hair vitamins aren’t always something people think about when it comes to looking after their hair. However, what you eat and consume on a daily basis, also has an effect on your hair’s general health.

For example, if you’re lacking in collagen, something that can happen as you get older, you might want to find ways of making up for that deficiency. A lot of hair vitamins have collagen in them, along with other hair-boosting properties that your hair is likely to be itching to get.

Consider what hair vitamins are on the market and what might be best for your hair, as well as what you want to achieve.

Eat more protein

Talking of nutrients for your hair, a good way of helping influence hair growth is by consuming more protein. Protein is an essential part of hair growth and hair health. As your hair is made primarily of keratin – which is a special hair protein, it’s important to try and consume as much as possible in your daily diet.

For strength, elasticity, and flexibility, it’s worth eating up to two eggs a day if possible. That could be scrambled eggs for breakfast or eggs and avocado on toast for lunch.

There are other ways of getting protein in your body. Some other foods worth adding to your diet include:

  • Lean meats
  • Fish and seafood
  • Dairy products like milk and Greek yogurt
  • Poultry

Indulge in hair masks

Hair masks are a great way to indulge your hair in some conditioning treatments that it so desperately needs. When your hair feels frazzled or dried out, it’s important to try and revitalize it with as much moisture as possible.

You may want to try steaming with a hair steamer to add moisture back into the curls. In general, though, there are hair masks for every hair type available on the market. You’ve got a varied choice, all of which contain a mixture of ingredients and promise to improve the quality of your hair.

A hair mask is something you should apply once on a weekly basis ideally as it’s an extra bit of nourishment for your hair each time it’s washed.

Avoid towel-drying your hair

Towel-drying your hair is probably the worst way to dry your hair. Why? Well, when it comes to towel-drying, you’re using a material that’s not so kind on the hair follicles, especially when your hair is wet and is at its most vulnerable.

Towel-drying your hair can result in breakage, which isn’t great if you’re trying to encourage hair growth.

Try to avoid towel-drying your hair as best as possible. An alternative would be to use a microfiber towel or an old t-shirt to dry your hair.

Go for a regular haircut

A regular haircut is an absolute must when maintaining your hair. While you might not like the idea of going to the hairdresser and getting hair chopped off, it’s something that helps encourage more growth in the hair.

Avoiding haircuts will end up doing the opposite and your hair will struggle to grow as a result. Try to go for regular haircuts, ideally every six to eight weeks. Even if you’re just getting a trim, it’s going to make a big difference to your hair in the long run.

When it comes to hair stylists, they’ll also use great conditioning treatments and hair masks, so it’s worth going for this and of course, the pampering you get.

Don’t wash your hair every day

Try to avoid washing your hair every day. This isn’t ideal because it’s going to end up stripping away your natural oils, which are helpful when trying to boost your hair’s health and growth in general.

With that said, avoid washing your hair every day and instead, wash your hair every other day or ideally once a week. This will make a big difference in the health of your hair!

Hopefully, with these tips to take on board, you’ll be able to make a big improvement to your hair this year and beyond.
