Are Coach Bags Worth The Money?
Hello Friends! Today I want to do a post about Coach bags and give you a general review of them, as well as answer the question; are they worth the money!? I have been a loyal Coach fan for over 10 years now and I have a background of working in fashion, so I think I’m pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the brand and handbags in general.
Around 15 years ago, the brand wasn’t so sought after, but these days it’s a brand to be proud to buy into. Their designs are cool, the quality is amazing and it’s very much a ‘cool girl brand’ these days. Today we are going to chat about leather quality, price, how to style them and also get into the preloved market and if they hold their value or not. Because it’s my belief that brands can sell things for as much as they want in store, but if it hits the second hand market pretty much valueless, it’s a big indication of if the brand is worth the money or not. Let’s chat!
When did Coach get cool?
When Stuart Ververs joined Coach around 15 years ago as their Creative Director I personally saw a HUGE upturn in Coach’s quality and design. They went back to their roots as a high quality, all American brand and their designs got really exciting! They moved away from plastic coated leathers and went back to lesser treated leathers which really show off the quality. Their general craftsmanship improved too and the brand got cool, relevant and sought after. They reclaimed their status of one of Americas heritage fashion brands; the UK has Mulberry, France have Hermes and America have Coach.
Under Stuart Ververs have made a real push towards thick, pebble and lambskin style leather, which are far less ‘treated’ and generally have more of an equestrian feel and are stitched together with thick, strong stitches. They looked to their archive and New York fashion in general (their birthplace) and merged the two together; think 70’s quality and design with a hint of 90’s nostalgia and you kinda get there. Plus throw in some really cool collaborations and you have a new-era of Coach. In my opinion, Coach pre-Stuart Ververs, made good designer bags, now they make great luxury bags… which are COOL!
Why Coach bags are worth the money!
There are so many reasons I love Coach but for me it’s all about the quality, design and practicality. They have successful nailed the three most important things AND made their product affordable luxury. If you have less than £500 or $500 to spend on a bag, Coach is always my go-to brand.
In terms of quality, Coach bags are really well made using great quality leather. I have said this before and I will say it again, Coach use better quality leather than some brands charging double their prices. The pebble grains are an especially good leather and really show off the brands commitment to quality. As for the craftsmanship, again, it’s wonderful. Good strong stitches, beautifully manufactured and the hardware is lovely quality (usually) solid brass. It lasts well and ages beautifully.
Next up, design. Coach have great designs. They have several iconic bags; the swinger for the Y2K gals, the Rogue for a luxe, larger size bag an of course, the Tabby bag which is probably their best seller at the moment. And on top of that they have other great styles of shoulder bags and backpacks. There is a lot to choose from with Coach and and there’s something for every style and every budget. They are also a great option if you are looking for a stylish and strong work bag too.
Next up, practicality. This one is more important to me than ever as I’m a mum now and I need to carry round more than I did and if I need to throw my bag on the floor to scoop up Mary in a hurry, that’s what I need to do! Personally, I love their bags because they do have a feeling of ‘real life’ and practicality to them. They have small size cuties and large size totes, plus loads of great backpacks. They are soft but durable and come in a variety of different leather finishes and coated canvases, so it’s really up to you what you want and need.
Finally, something I love about Coach is their commitment to getting as much wear out of your bags as possible. I’ve noticed in the last few years, a lot of their bags have come with multiple straps to give you multiple ways to wear your Coach bags. For instance, the Coach Tabby bag comes with both a short shoulder strap and a long shoulder strap so you can wear the bag as a clutch, a short shoulder bag a long shoulder bag or a cross body bag. PLUS if you wan to give you bag a new lease of life, you can get additional straps to put on which will make you bag feel new and shiny again! Coach have reinvented themselves as a brand and you can do the same with your handbag!
Are Coach Bags Real Leather?
Yes, Coach bags are made of real leather and it’s a great quality leather too! They use a selection of different leather skins and treat them all in different ways, but in my opinion anything in the pebble leather Is my favourite and the Coach Rogue bag has the thickest, most beautiful pebble leather of all the Coach bags! Coach also have a small selection of bags made from denim and coated canvas too, which are also great as they are hardwearing, but mostly, Coach bags are made from high quality leather. The linings are usually non-leather and made of a microfibre suede style fabric.
Can Coach Bags Be Repaired? Do They Have A Lifetime Warranty?
Coach offer a offer a one year warranty on all products, beyond that they offer a repair service which is chargeable. As for cleaning your bag, they sell products to clean your leather and offer great instructions for how to clean the different types of bags. It’s well worth having a look! Also, try to avoid third party repair or spa services, as this can affect your warranty.
Do Coach Bags Last Long?
Yes Coach bags last a good long time. I got my Coach Rogue bag over 10 years ago now and it still looks amazing! I try to polish it every once or twice a year to keep it clean and nourished, but they generally have an incredible lifespan. They are really well made using great quality leather so they last well. I’ve seen fellow Coach fans share their Coach bags which are 20-30 years old and they also look amazing. Some Coach bags get better with age too, like the Coach Rogue bag, as it gets a lovely patina after time and wear.
Which Coach bag is the Best 2023?
The best Coach bags for 2021 are:
- Coach Swinger Bag
- Coach Willow Bag
- Coach Tabby Bag
- Coach Tabby Pillow Bag
- Coach Rogue Tote bag
Are Coach Bags Worth The Money?
Yes! 100% especially in the thicker pebble leathers like the Coach rogue bag. The quality is FLAWLESS and PERFECT. Full price they are worth the cash and I honestly can name other ‘designer’ bags which sell less good quality bags for double or even triple the price. However when Coach goes on sale… holy smokes! That’s when you really feel the insanely good value for money! I was in store recently and it’s the very end of the sale, we are talking up to 60% and 70% off iconic and amazing bags which honestly, are an investment at that price! So my answer is, yes! Full price, Coach Bags are worth the cash; but on sale, girl, you can basically shop guilt free!!!!
Do Coach bags hold their value?
Yes, Coach bags hold their value fairly well. You can often pick them up for a great price on sale, use them for a year or two and sell them for almost as much as you paid for them. Their re-sale value is fairly strong for a mid-range Luxury brand.
Are Coach bags tacky?
No, Coach bags are not tacky. About 15 years ago their brand was a little tacky as it was associated with brands like MK, but now Coach are seen as a ‘cool girl brand’, loads of celebrities wear their bags and clothes as well as influencers and their pillow bag is ALL over Tik Tok. Their leather is often commended for being some of the best around too, especially for the price point.
