Why would you want to buy a designer bag, buy now pay later?
I’ve spoken about buying designer bags with a buy now, pay later plan and I know some people love it and some people hate it. I am in the latter camp, so I want to share my reasonings for loving it. First of all, if you can’t afford something, don’t buy it. However, if you simply want to manage your money and split the payments up, then a buy now, pay later model can be great. However you do need to ask yourself if you really want the bag, if you will still love it in a year and be happy to continue paying for it every month for a year and if you can trust yourself to keep up with the payments. It’s VERY important that by the end of the term you do pay off the full amount as otherwise it can harm your credit score (making it hard to buy a house, if that’s your goal!) OR you can be stung with some really high interest rates making it harder to pay off the bag later on.
A buy now, pay later plan should be used to help you manage your monthly budget and help you with your cash flow. Also, I personally buy more expensive designer handbags so that I don’t buy cheaper fast fashion ‘for now’ bags. Instead I would rather buy one special bag every year or every other year and NEVER buy another fast fashion bag again. You get me?!
So, if you are committed to buying just one special Louis Vuitton bag, which you can afford to pay it off in 12 monthly instalments – even during harder months like december or months when friends have weddings or hen do’s. Then buy now, pay later can be a great option. Whilst there are companies like Affirm, Klarna and Easy Pay who do plans like this, Louis Vuitton do not work with any of these companies, so you will have to set up your own payment plan. For me, this looks like a low interest credit card – preferably a 0% interest credit card and you can transfer 1/12th of the price of the bag every month for a year until the bag is completely paid off. You can’t skip a month and you can’t stop. Personally I set up a direct debit to stop myself from cheating. At the end of the year, if you stick by the rules, you will own your dream handbag, have the debt paid off and hopefully done it without paying any interest. If you can stick to this, it’s a great way to buy bigger items!
