Your foundation SPF is not enough!
It’s true! One of the biggest misconceptions about foundations with an SPF is that it will give you all the protection you need. NOT TRUE! If your foundation has an SPF 50 built into it, it’s usually enough for the winter months, but not summer, Why? Because you wear such a light layer of foundation you don’t get enough of a SPF coating on your face, plus you still need to reapply SPF, and it’s unlikely you will reapply your foundation multiple times a day. Don’t get me wrong, a foundation with SPF is good for winter, but it’s not enough for summer. You need more! Think of SPF in your foundation as a bonus, but please remember it’s not enough!
Should I apply moisturizer before sunscreen?
Yes! The order should go; serum, moisturiser, SPF, foundation. The SPF should be a generous layer and personally I allow it to soak in a little before I apply foundation. If it’s a sunny day, try and reapply the SPF every 2-4 hours. If you are wearing a fairly heavy foundation and powder, it can be worrying reapplying SPF, which is where the new Ambre Solaire Over Makeup Super UV Protection Mist comes in handy. Can I skip moisturizer and use sunscreen?
Yes, many people skip moisturiser and go straight from serum to sunscreen, as the sunscreen locks in the serum and generally has a moisturising base. It obviously depends on your skin type and the SPF, but if you feel like your skin can do without moisturiser, you can skip it! Experiment and see what works best for you!
How to reapply SPF over makeup
If you wear very little make-up and tend to just apply a little lipstick, a smudge of eyeshadow and a little eyebrow pencil, then you won’t struggle to reapply your SPF without disturbing your make-up, but if you wear a little more face make-up it can be daunting applying a SPF lotion over foundation and powder. However, it is possible! Apply your first layer of SPF as your last layer of skincare – before make-up. And then apply Garnier’s Ambre Solaire Over Makeup Super UV Protection Mist over the top of your make up. Shake before use and hold about 10-20cm from your face and mist your entire face and neck. You want a good covering to give you as much sun protection as you need, so spray for about 5 continuous seconds. Reapply every 2-4 hours.
