Chanel Espadrilles Review

Hello friends!! Today I thought it was time to do a quick Chanel espadrilles review. I have had my Chanel espadrilles for around 3 or 4 years now, they are beautifully worn in and I have a LOT to say about these iconic shoes! Are they worth it? What size should you get of Chanel espadrilles? Are they comfortable? Where are they made and generally is it worth investing in Chanel espadrilles! I love my Chanel espadrilles but I have to admit they ARE very expensive and need to be considered HARD before you indulge.. Let’s go!

How much do Chanel espadrilles Cost?

I got my Chanel espadrilles a few years ago when they were slightly cheaper, however Summer 2021 when I am writing this post, most Chanel espadrilles cost around £540 on the Chanel website (which is not an e-commerce website). However, it is worth noting that most of the styles on the Chanel website are denim or canvas rather than leather, so I don’t know if the leather versions cost more.

How To Buy Chanel espadrilles?

Chanel espadrilles are notoriously hard to buy, why?! Because they are such a coveted piece each summer and they sell out FAST! So if you want a pair, it might be worth checking out a few different boutiques to see which styles they have, OR you could save yourself a little money and buy them online preloved at somewhere like therealreal.com or Vestiaire Collective where you will be able to buy them a lot cheaper than retail. Usually around half price. If you don’t manage to score yourself a pair this summer, it might be worth keeping an eye on therealreal.com over winter incase someone is selling theirs out of season, or jump on them early in the season next spring!

Can you buy Chanel Shoes online?

I wrote a big blog post about if you can buy Chanel online a while ago – which might be worth reading! But if you want the quick version, Chanel do not have a e-commerce website and they do not allow department stores who sell Chanel to sell online either. The only places you can buy authentic Chanel online is via the preloved market, look at retailers like therealreal.com, Vestiaire Collective, Farfetch or Online Auctions like Bonham’s.

Does the Chanel espadrilles run small?

Yes, Chanel espadrilles run incredibly small, I usually take a size 40 or 41, but my Chanel espadrilles are a size 42 and they are fully broken in and stretched out with my feet and even now, they are not roomy or big. I NEVER have to size up to a size 42, but Chanel espadrilles run incredibly small. And whilst they give a small amount, they don’t give much and the canvas ones will give less than the leather and I have the leather ones.

How do you make Chanel espadrilles comfortable?

To make Chanel espadrilles comfortable, I would advise trying to break them in around the house, possibly whilst wearing socks or tights to protect your feet whilst you get used them. I have the leather Chanel espadrilles which are super soft on the inside thanks to the leather sole and lining, however, I have found them to be less comfortable on very humid days as sweaty feet rub a LOT than non-sweaty feet, so it might be best to avoid wearing them on humid days, or try putting a little talc on your feet to keep them dry. Or if you can feel them rubbing on any particular contact point it’s always worth wearing a plaster or two to protect your feet.

Once your Chanel espadrilles are worn in, they will feel super comfortable, the only time I ever have issues is when I wear them on very humid days as thats when my feet are especially big, sweaty and prone to rubbing.

Does the Chanel espadrilles run small?

Yes, Chanel espadrilles run VERY small, I usually take a UK size 6.5 to a 7, which is a european 40 to 41, but in Chanel espadrilles, I have a size 42, which is the equivalent of a UK size 8, which is a size I never normally have to wear and my Chanel espadrilles are not roomy at all! Always size up in Chanel espadrilles, even after years of wear and being broken in, Chanel espadrilles are not on the big side.

Can Chanel espadrilles get wet?

Whilst Chanel espadrilles are made of strong leather, canvas and have rubber soles, they are designed for dry conditions, so I would personally not wear them in the wet or anywhere they could get wet, like in dewy grass or walking on the beach by the waters edge. The soft leather could get marked or the canvas could get dirty. Plus the wicker soles could be weakened. To get the most life out of your beloved Chanel espadrilles, I would advise only wearing them on dry days.

How long do Chanel espadrilles last?

If you look after your Chanel espadrilles well and avoid wearing them on wet and rainy days and don’t do heavy walking in them, then they will last you for years. However, if you walk heavily in them, wear them every day and wear them on damp or rainy days then their life will be cut short and they may only last you a summer or two at the most. However, I never walk long distances in mine and I don’t wear them every day and I always avoid wearing them on wet days, so my Chanel espadrilles are on around their 4th summer.

Where are Chanel espadrilles made?

Chanel espadrilles are made in Spain, which is where espadrilles originate from and they have the best manufacturing of espadrilles. However most Chanel shoes are made in Italy, it is just the Chanel espadrilles which are the exception. The country of manufacturing is marked on the inside of the shoe as well as on the rubber sole.

What size should I get in Chanel espadrilles?

Chanel espadrilles run incredibly small, so if you are between sizes, go for the larger size and then add buy the shoe size up from there! No joke! I am usually between a 40 and 41 and in Chanel espadrilles I have a size 42 and they are not roomy shoes, even after they are broken in!

Why are Chanel shoes so expensive?

Chanel shoes are expensive because they are handmade using the best shoe makers and the best quality leathers. They are designed to be timeless and special and with that, comes a hefty price tag. However, I have personally found that shopping the Chanel Sale can bring a great shoe bargain! Whenever I shop the Chanel sale, I always skip the bags and clothes and head straight to the shoes as that is where you find the most selection and the best prices. They are also a good thing to pick up on the pre-loved market too! However, it’s unlikely you will find Chanel espadrilles on sale as they usually sell out super fast.

Do Chanel Espadrilles Stretch?

Chanel Espadrilles in leather stretch a tiny amount, but honestly, it’s minimal. Don’t buy Chanel Espadrilles in a smaller size assuming they will stretch. They do come up small, so please don’t assume that you are buying the right size once they have stretched, you need to buy the right size for you in the store, otherwise they will be too painful to wear and they won’t stretch as much as you need. Generally you need to size up in Chanel Espadrilles. If you are between shoe sizes, then round up and then add a size. Chanel Espadrilles do not run true to size, they are very small sizes.

Are Chanel Espadrilles Worth it?

Honestly, this is a really tricky one, because my Chanel espadrilles are fairly old now and I love them and they still look good, however, they categorically will not last anywhere near as long as Chanel jewellery or bags. Plus, if I change my mind, I won’t be able to get a good price for them on the resale value as they won’t increase their value like the bags or jewellery will. That being said, I love my Chanel espadrilles and I have worn them quite a lot and they feel really special. However, if you are only going to buy one Chanel purchase, I wouldn’t recommend them as you won’t get as many years out of them as you would a purse, necklace, scarf or even a pair of Chanel Ballet Flats. However, if you love them and you can afford to buy yourself the occasional treat from Chanel and you are happy with the idea of being careful with them and them not lasting as well as other Chanel purchases, then please, go ahead, buy them and love them!

However, if you are a little more cautious with you Chanel purchases and worry about their cost v’s their shelf life, then I would recommend searching therealreal.com, Vestiaire Collective or Online Auctions like Bonham’s. That way you can pay around half the price for them and still get lots of use out of them.

Chanel Espadrilles Review

So finally, a little synopsis of my Chanel espadrilles review. As I mentioned, I have had my Chanel espadrilles  around 3-4 years and they are showing signs of wear and tear, most noticeably a split in the rubber soles. This doesn’t bother me too much as they still feel sturdy and I never wear them in the rain so my feet don’t get wet. The leather still looks and feels great – and super soft and they are so comfortable they feel like slippers. Whilst they are an expensive shoe, I love them, however, you might consider if the Ballet pumps or Chanel espadrilles are best for you, as the Chanel ballet flats may well last longer and be better for more seasons. Personally I would say if you love them, get them, but look after them and make peace with the fact that they aren’t an heirloom and instead they are to wear and enjoy. Also, do check the preloved market to see if you can find a pair for a lower price as £540 on a pair of espadrilles and £200-250 is still a lot, but a hell of a lot more reasonable!
