New To Jo Malone Perfumes? Try These Best Seller Colognes First!
Hello friends! Today I thought it was time to do a post for the Jo Malone newbies! As a long-time fan of the brand I feel like I know my way around the collections more than most, however, with that comes the disadvantage of assuming everyone is as well versed with the products as I am! So today I am sharing: New To Jo Malone Perfumes? Try These Best Seller Colognes First! I really hope this gives the new discoverers of the perfumes a great place to start and hopefully make the shopping experience a little less intimidating. Because let’s be honest, it can be a little daunting walking into a perfume boutique and just sniffing around blindly! Get a cup of tea, make yourself comfortable and let’s do this!
Tips For Fragrance Shopping
- Ask the sales assistant for help
- Don’t smell too many fragrances in one visit, as you will get nose blind and confused
- Spray the fragrances onto a card and only mist your two favourites on each wrist
- Consider how strong or subtle you like your fragrances before you buy
- Don’t rush; consider the fragrance for the rest of the day and see how it wears
- Ask the sales assistant for a sample so you can try another day
- Think of the perfume as a mood and try to match it to how you want to feel or your personality in general
- Remember your fragrance tastes change with the weather so try not to buy anything too summery at the end of summer, or too wintery in spring
Which Jo Malone Perfumes last the longest?
I wrote a full blog post about the longest lasting Jo Malone Perfumes here, but generally, I would say to avoid lighter fragrances and citrus fragrances, as they tend to fade faster. Generally the Cologne Intense fragrances last a little longer, as they are slightly richer fragrances with more intense ingredients like amber, ouds, resins and rose, which tend to last longer. Also, they have a slightly higher concentration too. Personally, I think the longest lasting fragrances from Jo Malone are :
- Red Roses
- Amber & Lavender
- Tuberose Angelica
- Myrrh & Tonka
- Oud & Bergamot
- Orange Blossom
- Incense & Cedrat
- Dark Amber & Ginger Lily
- Pomegranate Noir
- Whisky & Cedarwood

Jo Malone ‘Lime Basil & Mandarin’: Uplifting & Citrus
Notes: Lime, Basil, Mandarin, Amberwood
If you love uplifting and citrus based fragrances then Lime Basil & Mandarin may well be your perfect Jo Malone cologne! This is the signature scent of the brand and for good reason, it’s fresh, lively, elegant, uplifting and ageless. It’s fresh citrus brightness is contrasted with a slightly peppery green note which is what makes it so special and magical! If you are shopping for a gift, this one is always a crowd pleaser, especially in the summer months.
Jo Malone ‘Pomegranate Noir’: Dark & Mysterious
Notes: Pomegranate, Casablanca Lily, Guaiacwood
If you are looking for something a little more dark, mysterious and unisex then Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir is WONDERFUL! It’s another signature scent from the brand and I would argue it’s one of the best perfumes they have ever done. Whereas Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin is perfect for the summer months, Pomegranate Noir is much more of an Autumn / Winter fragrance.
Jo Malone ‘Wood Sage & Sea Salt’: Unisex & Coastal
Notes: Ambrette Seeds, Sea salt, Driftwood, Sage
Personally I find Jo Malone’s Wood Sage & Sea Salt a little subtle for me to wear by itself, but I LOVE it as a fragrance combiner to add a little woodsy, coastal, salty depth to every fragrance. However, that being said, it’s one of their best selling fragrances as the Millennial minimalist no-fragrance-fragrances lover adore it! It’s been copied by SO many brands, but no-one has ever managed to nail it quite like JML have! Perfect for those who love something a little lighter, fresher and woodsier, it’s also great for men who tend not to like a heavy cologne.
Jo Malone ‘Blackberry & Bay’: Fruity & Woodsy
Notes: Blackberry, Bay Leaves, Cedarwood
I always think of Jo Malone ‘Blackberry & Bay’ as the most classically ‘fruity-floral’ fragrance of the collection, even though it’s actually not very floral! Why? Because it has a mood of a fruity-floral with it’s fresh, nature filled fruits and delicious sweetness! It’s the perfect delicious Autumnal perfume, filled with nostalgia and joy. It appeals to women of all ages for it’s youthful sweetness but also it’s green, moody bay leaves and cedarwood twist. It’s a lovely, elegant and very easy to wear fragrance. A favourite of mine for the colder months.
Jo Malone ‘Red Roses’: Fresh & Floral
Notes: Lemon, Red Rose, Violet Leaves, Beeswax
If you love a floral fragrance, then I would personally recommend Peony & Blush Suede, Orange Blossom or Red Roses. If you like something a little softer, pinker, prettier and more youthful, then Peony & Blush Suede is wonderful. Orange Blossom is a fresh uplifting, zesty, blossom-filled perfume: It’s stunning for summer! However, Red Roses will ALWAYS be my personal favourite floral fragrance from the brand. It’s a beautiful vintage edition of a rose, it’s fresh, long lasting and wonderful! My personal favourite Jo Malone perfume!
