Cambridge Satchel Company ‘The Little One’ Review

My friends! Today I want to have a chat about the new Cambridge Satchel Company bag, ‘The Little One’. Today I’m going to be discussing price, quality, design options, personalisation and so much more! If you are ready for a bit of a handbag deep dive… then you are in the right place! Let’s Go!

Inspiration

IMO, smaller is cuter; this micro bag is just shy of 8″ wide and just over 5″ tall. It’s much smaller than the classic 14″ satchel, but wayyyyy cuter! I love the simplified designer, the lighter weight and just the general cuteness of it. It’s a go-anywhere style of bag, hardwearing, easy access and adorable. Personally, I think it’s cutest worn as a crossbody bag over a cute tweed coat with a beret in the Winter. Or as a shoulder bag and a vintage dress in the summer.

Price

The Little One is one of the most affordable handbags in the Cambridge Satchel Company collection, it retails for just £95, which for a 100% leather, made in England handbag is an absolute bargain! Plus if you are new to Cambridge Satchel Company, you can get 10% off by signing up to the mailing list, making it just over £85! Amazing right?!

Quality

Like all Cambridge Satchel Company bags, this little cutie is made in the UK using high quality, thick leather. It has branded nickel hardware (so it doesn’t tarnish), an adjustable shoulder strap and comes beautifully packaged in a dustbin, keeping it nice and safe in the post, as well as in your wardrobe. The leather tends to be quick stiff at first, but it does soften up over time. Also, the leather is treated, so it’s the perfect blend of being hardwearing, feeling nice to carry, but also not spoiling fast. It’s a beautifully made bag and it’s quality is visible! Plus, when you support a brand like Cambridge Satchel Company, you are supporting British factories which specialise in traditional leather crafts, which without brands like CSC would die out.

Design Options

The Little One currently comes in 12 different colour options including this brand new mustard shade. There are two tone options like the adorable navy and red version as well as more simplistic versions like the vintage off white. There truly is something for everyone and there are new seasonal shades coming out every year too! One of the things I love most about The Little One compared with the classic satchels is the fact that they fasten with magnetic poppers. This is such a cute detail as it looks as adorable from the front, but it’s way more practical for accessing your purse phone and keys. As much as I love traditional buckles, the magnetic fastenings are so much easier for those of us who are forever fumbling around their handbags and trying to control a dog and not drop their coffee! Sound familiar? Finally, the shoulder strap is adjustable so it can be worn as a long shoulder bag or as a cross body bag. Finally a cute little touch is personalising your bag… let’s discuss!

Personalise Your Bag

Personally, I tend not to personalise my bags, but I love it for other people. Why? Because it’s SUPER CUTE! Why not for me? For a number of reasons, mainly because my partner and I are engaged (and have been for about 6 years now, I know, I’m *that* person), so I’m also very aware that one day my initials will change and I’ll be super annoyed when my personalised items are out-of-date. Plus I don’t love my current initials, KM, and I don’t know what my new initials will be KMW? KW? Who knows! Anyway, I personally find it easier not to personalise anything I own, but I love the look of the monogram and I know that if I ever change my mind, I can always pop in store and ask them to be added on. However, if you don’t have as many issues as I do, then you can add up to 4 letters to your bag and it costs £7 per letter and they can be done in black, blind, gold, rainbow or silver. They can also add symbols to the bag if you prefer, examples include a bike, heart, moon, crown and rose. But like I said, I’ve kept mine plain.

Do Cambridge satchels soften?

Yes, over time Cambridge Satchels soften. The leather gets a little more worn in and a litter softer at the edges which is really lovely. Polishing your bag with leather cream will also help to soften the leather, although you should always do a patch test first!

How do you clean a Cambridge Satchel?

The leather used for Cambridge Satchels have been well treated, so in most instances, you can just wipe the bag with a dry or damp cloth to remove dirt. If your bag gets wet in the rain, you should wipe it down to remove the water and then allow to dry naturally. Don’t blast it with heat or sit it on the radiator – this will dry out the leather. Finally, you can give your Cambridge satchel company bag a clean and polish with a leather cream. This will remove a lot of the dirt and protect it from future dirt, grim and stains. Also, avoid using biro’s near your bag. Biro ink is the HARDEST to remove!

Cambridge Satchel Company ‘The Little One’ Review

Finally, my Cambridge Satchel Company ‘The Little One’ Review. I feel like I’ve mostly covered everything in this post, but I just wanted to do a quick recap of the bag! First of all, the design is adorable! I LOVE the simplified satchel look, it’s so cute! I love the colour options, especially the two tone version and I love the fact that some bags have gold and others have silver hardware. Although, do make sure you look closely at the photos so you are sure what colour hardware you have, don’t assume it’s silver if you have an aversion to gold! Speaking of the hardware, I love the fact this bag has the appearance of buckles, but actually un-pops with magnets. It’s SO much easier than fiddling around with buckles and I’m hoping it also means there will be no awkward phase of trying to get the buckles to soften too! I know buckles are more traditional, but I’m a gal on the go and I like things easy! Further to that point, I love the fact that this simplified satchel uses less leather, making it more efficient and also lighter to carry. Plus am I the only one who never uses the tiny front pocket?!

Finally, the Cambridge Satchel Company ‘The Little One’ is just a really cute bag! It’s and adorable design, it comes in loads of beautiful colour ways, it’s small, easy to use and cute for running errands when you have minimal luggage. Sure it’s not big enough to take to work, but it’s perfect for popping to the shops or having lunch. For me, it fits in exactly what I need for a couple of hours out and because it’s nice and robust, I know I don’t have to baby this bag, it it gets rained on, just wipe it dry and allow to dry and if you spill your lunch down it, just wipe it clean and once in a while, give it a polish! In short, it’s the perfect mini bag for grabbing on your way out to run your errands or seeing friends! Personally, I will be using mine in the week for errands and at the weekends as a crossbody bag with my Barbour when I’m walking in the woods, having a pub lunch and going to the farm shop, It’s easy, lightweight and fits everything inside I need, plus a bag like this doesn’t have to be babied, which is always a plus side! I love this bag, it’s just so cute and handy and also really beautiful quality for an affordable price. Perfect! Also, just a quick reminder, if you do want to buy this bag, don’t forget to sign up to the mailing list to get 10% off!
