Jo Malone ‘Lime, Basil & Mandarin’ is one of the oldest fragrance in the collection, it was created by Jo herself, years ago when she was at the helm of the brand. It combines everything the brand is known and loved for, it’s natural, exciting, elegant, simple and contrasting. The perfumes main accords are lime, basil and mandarin, mixed with green leaves, thyme, amber and woods.

I LOVE this fragrance because it’s super uplifting, it is wonderful worn day or night and it also carries through all the seasons. In the summer it’s clean, fresh and bright and in the winter it’s elegant, green, peppery and reminds you of summer days and joy. No matter what time of year it is, it’s always uplifting and elegant. Also, citrus fragrances are famed for being sunshine filled, but also fading fast, Lime, Basil & Mandarin actually has really great longevity for a fragrance and you get a good 6-8 hours out of it, which is impressive for a citrus fragrance. If you love green or citrus based fragrances, this one is absolutely stunning because it’s bright, joyful and elegant. It’s also got a lot more depth than most citrus fragrance and it’s not at all sugary sweet, it’s a citrus for all ages, but especially suitable for a more mature fragrance palette; I think this is thanks to the beautiful peppery and green notes, it really adds a little edge and sophistication. I absolutely love it and if you are new to the brand, this is one I would recommend you try first. If you are looking for more of a sweeter fruity-floral though, you might want to skip this one and go for English Pear & Freesia which is a little more youthful and sweet. And if you like something a little sexier than try Pomegranate Noir, which is dark and filled with woods and red berries.

As for fragrance combining, you can layer up Lime Basil & Mandarin with English Pear & Freesia, Wood Sage & Sea Salt or Grapefruit to make it fresher. However, if you like a more warm twist to your fragrance, try it with Myrrh & Tonka or Pomegranate Noir. My biggest criticism of this perfume is that it’s TOO iconic and too recognisable, which is why this is a brilliant fragrance to combine with another to give it a little twist and make it a little more bespoke to you! My personal favourite combination is either Grapefruit or Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
