Hello friends, over the past few weeks I have had a few enquiries about our Airbnb apartment and I thought it was about time I shared my current plans with you and give you an update on the summer we had. Just in case you are curious!
This Year…
So, just to catch you up on our Airbnb journey this year, this was our third year in business and because we are in a seasonal seaside town, we tend to be busier in the Summer than we are in the Winter. From January to March, we tend to only have weekend guests and from around April / May time it starts to really hot up, and then it slows down again in late September / early October! However, this year was a little different… in many ways! We closed our airbnb voluntarily just before lockdown 1.0, mainly because we just felt really nervous about the rising cases and we also felt like it was the responsible thing to do for our cleaner too. It was sad to close, but it had to happen.
As I’m sure you know by now, I make money from my airbnb and my blog / influencer werk, however, with most PR agencies on furlough and the airbnb closed, income-wise it was a pretty tough time. So I was THRILLED when we were finally able to reopen our Margate Airbnb doors early July. It was truly a relief to have some cash flowing in again and not only that, having guests made everything feel a little more normal. We had an amazing summer with loads of wonderful guests. I felt so blessed to be making some money again and so grateful to be able to help give out guests the holiday they needed! As you know I put a lot of love into our Airbnb and I LOVE being able to give our guests somewhere special to stay! In terms of our income, we were of course, down on the year, but only around 20-30% which felt like a huge blessing.
I don’t know if anyone is interested in this, but I’m going to mention it anyway, our cleaner did an amazing job at keeping the space spotless, sanitised and safe. Airbnb were amazing when it came to information and we had an 18 page document all about cleaning and ventilation best practices which was super helpful too. As for feedback from our guests, they all said how safe they felt and that made me so happy! It’s been a tough year for everyone and I think a dose of sea air and some chips on the beach was exactly what was needed!
As For Now…
Fast forward to Lockdown 2.0 and we are closed once again. If I’m honest, I think we may stay closed now until the Spring when the weather warms up. Margate is sleepy in the Winter as it is and with everything closed, it just feels like the right decision for us, but if we reopen a little earlier, you’ll be the first to know! We aren’t taking any bookings yet for the Spring, but I’ll keep you informed! I’m going to do a blog post soon recommending other airbnb’s but until then, you can always DM me on Instagram if you have any questions!
