Roja Parfums ‘Innuendo’ Inspiration

“Like a silk robe sliding off the curve of a shoulder, Innuendo is the scent of nothing needing to be said. A flash of suggestion, a knowing look, it is all intent and never action. A beautiful bouquet of refined Rose and creamy Jasmine create a feminine flowerbed where the gentle powder of Violet and Orris mingle with the resonating warmth of Sandalwood to create a sensation as soft as the caress of cashmere against warm skin, and as delicate as the tender kiss which lies upon it. A little touch of leathery Labdanum and animalic Musk create just enough of an innuendo to catch a second glance and to read between the lines: Without even realising, its soft, delicate femininity has decidedly seduced.”

Roja Parfums ‘Innuendo’ Review

My friends!! I’m SO excited, this week sees the re-release of Roja Parfums ‘Innuendo’ which is a fan favourite from 2012 which was later retired. This warm, floral, powdery and slightly vintage-inspired fragrance is a delight, and with it’s dominant notes of may rose, jasmine and violets, it’s right up my street!

Roja Parfums ‘Innuendo’ opens with bright notes of citrus; smoky bergamot, fresh lemon and orange and slightly green lemon verbena, it’s fresh and sunshine filled, which quickly opens up into a heart of floral accords. The middle notes are awash with rich, classic florals; may flower, jasmine, violets and ylang ylang, I would guess there is a little geranium, gardenia and lily of the valley in there too, although I might be wrong! At the base of the fragrance there is a beautifully powdery and earthy blend of orris, musk, patchouli, sandalwood and tonka bean, which supports the florals and add a little woodsy, earthy depth to the fragrance. A lot of Roja Parfums have quite complex and heavy bases, but this one has a slightly more simple base, which really allows the florals to take centre stage, whilst still giving them a powdery, earth base which really adds to the English Country Garden vibes and giving the fragrance a wonderful depth and longevity.

I adore Roja Parfums ‘Innuendo’; The classic florals are magical and I love the modern-nostalgic feel it has. It reminds me of stately home gardens where the wildflowers bloom alongside the immaculate rows of flowers, with hot sun beating down, grandparents in tow and ice creams in the distance. It’s elegant and mature, understated yet fabulous, playful and unique. The sunny citrus notes lift the fragrance to give it a real warmth, life and keep it feeling really modern and wearable, whilst the florals and base give it a wonderful richness and history. If you like a classic floral fragrance which is wearable, elegant and exciting, then this could be one for you. It’s dominant notes are May rose, violets and jasmine and it’s truly spectacular! In a world of sickly fruity-florals, I know fragrances like this can be misunderstood and overlooked, but this is truly magical! Next time you are in Selfridges, Harrods or Burlington Arcade, stop by for a sniff, because this is wonderful and Lord knows, there’s so many fabulous Roja Parfums to discover!!
