How To Make Your Living Room More Colourful

Hello friends!! I recently worked on a project with Valspar Paint and I’m SO happy with the results! If you already follow me on Instagram, you might have seen it, but for those who don’t, I thought it was time I shared the results with you on here too! So, as you might have guessed, I LOVE my Airbnb living room; it’s colourful and filled with beautiful things, which are all there to make my guests feel as joyful as possible. It’s such a fun space, but before this project, I always felt like there was something missing; I just didn’t know what that thing was. Looking back now, I can’t believe it took me so long to see it, because on reflection, I NEVER included the white interior door in any photos! I always cropped it out, I always took photos from angles which didn’t include it, I did nothing for me, but at the same time, I’m so conditioned into thinking that interior doors should be white, that I never thought to change it! Anyway, here’s How To Make Your Living Room More Colourful…

A few months ago I was in the Airbnb and I found myself thinking, ‘I wonder if we should have painted the door the same colour as the walls?’. I started to think about it, but if truth be told, I couldn’t face the idea of getting the paints out and taking the leap. And then by weird co-incidence, within a few weeks, I got an email from Valspar paint asking if there was anything I wanted to paint pink to help promote their Exclusive Pink Ribbon Foundation shades of paint. Of course, my immediate answer to ‘Do you want to paint anything pink?’ was ‘Yes! EVERYTHING!’ but then I realised the thing I most wanted to paint pink was this door and I wanted it HOT PINK! YAS GIRL! So I had some chats with Valspar Paint and I got to work!

BEFORE….

As promised, here is the before with the rarely seen white door. There’s nothing wrong with it, but it never set my heart on fire! I know it’s ‘normal’ to have white doors, ceilings and skirting boards, but I just felt like the white made the pink look almost a grey-pink and I also thought it made the sofa look a little, I dunno, dirty? Which I can assure you it isn’t! Anyway, in short, the door before was fine, but basic.

AFTER…

Oh la la!!! Will you take a look at this?!! The door looks HOT!!! I love the bright pink and it really pops!! I love the way it almost matches the hot pink chair and gives the room more balance colour-wise! Now the room looks, bolder, fresher and generally just more ALIVE! I also think the pink on the walls looks a prettier, fresher pink and less of a grey-pink. Generally, it’s now just a door that makes me think… YAS!! BRB, I’m off to take a selfie in front of it!

Finally…

So, there we have it, How To Make Your Living Room More Colourful!!! I hope you love it as much as I do! Just a reminder, I used the Valspar Paint shade ‘Pink Ribbon Care’, which has been created for the Pink Ribbon Foundation, who are an amazing breast cancer charity and 5% of all the proceeds from this shade and a second shade (see it here) will be donated to charity. Also, I was paid by Valspar Paint to create the video and instagram (not this post) and I will be donating a portion of the money to Pink Ribbon Foundation also. Anyway, I hope you like it, let me know what you think and if you feel like you need a little ‘something something’ added to your decor, why not consider painting an interior door and giving your room a colour pop in an unexpected way like I’ve done!

PS. If you want to see some more interiors from me, then check out this hallway reveal, my guide to buying vintage furniture and because we all love a ‘before’ and ‘after post, here’s my kitchen reveal, but be warned, because it was a wreck before!!

The door colour really does make an impact. Love the strong shade with the lighter wall. Really lovely!
