My friends! How the F*** is it August already!??!! I honestly don’t know! I feel like I’ve had a really nice month, really chilled and quite lazy. We’ve had a heat wave, another dog in tow and honestly, the month has flown by in a quite nice way. Anyway… more about the pups, podcasts and playtime in a moment… let’s deep dive into my July Faves shall we?!
I’m still using my 3 months of Spotify for 99p deal (not sponsored I promise!) and I love it so much that I’m tempted to keep it going after this offer period. I think the Spotify algorithm has figured out who I am now and I’m getting served all my old favourites; Weezer, Pulp, Suede, Elton John, Hole and throwing in some artists that I love to hear but wouldn’t really be a classic ‘go-to’ for me, like Blondie, Barbara Streisand, The Horrors, Jesus and Mary Chain, Nick Cave and so many more. Sometimes algorithms work for you and sometimes they work against you *cough cough* Instagram!
Aromatherapy Associates Body Oil
I’m a long time fan of Aromatherapy Associates and their latest release, Body Oil is absolutely stunning. It’s heavily scented and smells like the best spa you’ve ever been to. Filled with essential oils of geranium, ylang ylang and a hint of vanilla (which is barely traceable) and it’s rich and hydrating. Absolutely stunning and super relaxing!
L’Occitane Lip Balm
Just when I thought I didn’t need any more lip balms, L’occitane went and released a tinted, delicious smelling lip balm. It’s lovely and hydrating and a really pretty, subtle shade. It reminds me of the iconic By Terry lip balm, but plum-y or pomegrante-y rather than rose-y. It’s a delight and it reminds me of being 14 and being lip balm obsessed! oh and in the same collection, there’s also a lip scrub!
I’ve admitted defeat! We barely watch any TV these days and the other day I took charge of my boyfriends laptop and cancelled the NowTV subscription, I can’t deny, it FELT SO GOOD!! I also paused both of our Audible subscriptions for 3 months as we have both amounted a LOT of book credits and we can still use them, we just won’t get any new credits for 3 months, nor will we pay for the membership fee! SO GOOD! I’m a money saving machine this month!! Oh and if you are thinking about cancelling NowTV, you can cancel at any time, but it looks like you pay and have access for an additional 3 months. So you might want to factor that into when you cancel!
Dove Pomegrante Seeds Exfoliating Body Scrub
Over the past few months, I found myself using more and more Dove products. I have been using their deodorants and body washes and they’ve become my go-to Boots body care brand of late. I love the work they do with body confidence and body positivity and their products leave me feeling clean, fresh and generally feeling pretty good. Especially good for my morning shower, because they are so clean and uplifting. Anyway, one of my favourite things has to be this Dove Exfoliating Body scrub which smells like pomegranate with a touch of sweetness, which almost reminds me of vanilla or caramel. It’s hardworking, but gentle enough to use frequently, it’s also got a creamy texture which almost feels like it’s got crushed seeds of nuts in. Far more gentle than the usual sugar and oil formulas a lot of brands offer. For £5.99, it’s a steal!
This month I have been loving the Audible series ‘Evil Has A Name’ about the Orange County Killer, I’ve also been loving ‘The Dark Side Of…’ Because I love stories of old Hollywood. I especially loved the episode on ‘The Wizard of Oz’, I had always heard the rumours but this felt like a really thorough and accurate look of behind the scenes of the iconic film. Also the episode on Peg Entwistle was really good. It’s a great podcast! Also, Mogul is a podcast I’ve listened to (and recommended) ages ago, but I’ve started listening to some old episodes again, mainly because they have another series coming up and even though the seasons are unrelated, I decided to give it a second listen regardless. Anyway, it’s such a great podcast about hip-hop and even though I’m clearly not a hip-hop gal (see above!) it’s such an interesting, inspiring, sensitive and well written podcast and well-researched podcast. Go listen!
A few weeks ago my parents asked us if we could look after their old black Labrador whilst they went on holiday. He’s 13 years old and he’s got grey eyebrows, paws and nose. He’s very sweet and it’s been a LOT of fun having two dogs in tow. Fun fact, without bob, there would be no Gordon, it was Bob who made my boyfriend realise how much he loved dogs and how much he would love a black Labrador of his own. My friends, meet Bob, isn’t he a cutie?
Roja Parfums Hair Perfume
I’m sure regular readers will have already noticed I’m a huge fangirl for Roja Dove’s amazing fragrances, so it probably comes as no surprise that I LOVE the new hair perfume. Hair perfumes have become my favourite way to wear scent because it clings so well to hair, giving it amazing longevity and I never have to worry about it irritating my skin if I stay in the sun too long. There’s five hair perfumes in the collection, but I love Taif Aoud the most. It’s filled with notes of aldehydes, Bergamot, Geranium, Rose de Mai, Rose Taif, Jasmin de Grasse, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Aoud, Benzoin and Vanilla. It’s a dream!
We discovered Quex Park in Birchington a few months ago, but it’s steadily become one of our favourite places to do our weekend grocery shopping! They have a brilliant selection of fruit & vege, meats and cheeses, bread and cakes and more, all locally sourced and all incredible quality. Plus it’s dog friendly, so we can take the boys in with us and sometimes they get given dog biscuits and cuddles by the team! They also have a garden centre, maze and workshops to explore (and probably more that I don’t even know about!) but it’s a wonderful place to visit and we love their grocery selection!
Seaside Exploring With Matalan
Can we talk about this dress from Matalan?!! It’s £15 and I feel pretty cool in it! Matalan honestly have the best selection of summer dresses and the best part is, they are lightweight and comfortable, and honestly a pleasure to wear, especially in the crazy heat!
Skinnydip Cat Bag
Yep. I needed this Skinnydip Cat bag! It’s good right?! Damn, I love skinnydip, they have the most fun accessories for the best prices. This little cutie is £28. #ThankMeLater
Christophe Robin Hair Brush
I was recently at the hair dressers and I realised I was lucky enough to own pretty much all the same styling tools and products that they do… with one big exception. My hair brush! I need to be honest here, I have been using a hairbrush which is at least 10 years old and I think I got it out of a cracker. No joke! Anyway, over the past few months I’ve been trying and testing a number of different hair brushes and I have to say, this Christophe Robin Hair Brush is brilliant. It grips the hair and helps me get a tangle free, smooth finish to my super-basic blow dry.
