Jo Malone London ‘Poppy & Barley’ Is BACK!

If you had asked Jo Malone London to grant me a wish… I would have asked for them to release their previously limited edition fragrance Jo Malone London ‘Poppy & Barley’ as a permanent fixture of the collection (I would have also requested for them to bring back Wild Fig & Cassis to return, but we’ll discuss that another day!). Imagine my excitement when I found out they’ve only gone and done it!! Not for me, I hasten to add, just because it’s a wonderful, wonderful fragrance which is too good not to be enjoyed forever more! Let’s discuss!

Fragrance Combining

As with all Jo Malone London fragrances, Poppy & Barley can be worn alone or layered up with other Jo Malone fragrances. This gives us the ability to play the perfumer and have a little more fun with fragrance by creating something a little more bespoke. It also adds a little extra depth and richness to the fragrance Poppy & Barley can be combined with Honeysuckle & Davana to create a super pretty floral fragrance with a little extra loveliness, it also works beautifully with Wood Sage & Sea Salt to give a slightly coastal, mineral-y, woodsy, salty twist to the fragrance. Alternatively it’s stunning with Myrrh & Tonka (from the Cologne Intense collection) which gives it a slightly more wintery, smokey, woodsy twist on this perfectly pretty fragrance.

In Review…

For me, Poppy & Barley is classic Jo Malone. It just smells like Jo Malone, you know that quality, that fresh, natural, elegant loveliness which makes you say ‘are you wearing Jo Malone?’. It opens with a hit of warm, velvety, fresh rose with a twist of slightly sweet, powdery, nostalgic violet. The fig is milky, green and subtle, whilst the barley and bran are dry, earthy, almost grassy, but more grainy. Poppy & Barley smells like a floral harvest festival and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful fragrances in the Jo Malone collection! If you love fragrances like Red Roses, Wild Bluebell, Wild Fig & Cassis and Blackberry & Bay, I think you will love this one! It’s a dream!
