NO MORE FACE WIPES!!

Hello friends, I thought I’d stop by and share a few thoughts on face wipes with you all. There’s a video going viral at the moment which shows how face wipes can’t pass through the sewer system when flushed. They aren’t biodegradable or recyclable so they end up being burnt or buried. Like most people, I was horrified when I saw it, but I also thought to myself ‘Are people still using face wipes!?‘. If I’m honest, I thought it was something we used to do, y’know, like smoking or not wearing safety belts, but quite frankly, face wipes are bad for the planet and our faces… so my friends, let’s do this one and for all… LET’S DUMP FACE WIPES FOREVER!

My Story Of Face Wipes…

I have to admit, I used to be a huge fan of face wipes, they were cheap and convenient. Sure they made my eyes sting, but everyone was using them and it seemed like a good idea to 20-something me. I worked long hours and by the time I got home I barely wanted to peel myself off the sofa to make dinner, let alone take off my make-up. In fact, I used to keep a pack of face wipes by the side of the sofa so I could take my make up off without actually getting off my butt! I wish I was kidding, but I’m not! Anyway, I quit buying face wipes about 8 years ago and honestly I don’t miss them at all. So what do I use instead?

The Wonderful World Of Cleansing Balms

About 6 years ago I discovered the wonderful world of cleansing balms and face oils! Like many, at first I felt weird washing my face with oil, I worried it might give me spots or make my skin dirtier, but I became a convert quickly! They leave my skin clean, make-up free and not striped, which is perfect for my dry skin. I tend to do a double cleanse each night, first with a cleansing balm/oil and a second with a foaming cleanser or Micellar water and a cotton pad. This leaves my skin cleaner than any face wipes and a lot healthier in general. Cost-wise, it’s a small outlay for a bundle of flannels and you can spend as little or as much as you want on a cleansing balm and face wash. Both Boots & Superdrug have some great own-brand products at great prices and I promise, your skin will love you for it! Sure I have to get off the sofa to take my make-up off, but it’s a small price to pay to help the environment and have healthier skin.

Who needs a face wipe when you have a flannel?!

OK, so here’s what you’re gonna do…. You’re gonna buy a bundle of 12 basic white face flannels (they’re £12.99 on amazon) and a cleansing oil and a regular foaming cleanser (you can get both for around £10 from Boots / Superdrug, or you can buy more luxe options like the ones below). Each night, use the cleansing oil all over your face to remove all your make up and the days dirt. Once you’ve worked the oil into your skin, use the flannel and warm water to remove. Then do a second cleanse with a foaming cleanser. And you’re done! It’s important to use a clean flannel each night as they can harbour a lot of germs if you keep reusing them. Most of the time I wash my flannels with my whites, but sometimes I pop them into my dark wash if I’m running low on clean flannels. Sure they might not be as white as they were, but they are clean and that’s all that matters to me. My friends, there’s no excuse for face wipes, let’s learn from this and create better habits for ourselves and the environment! Make the switch and ditch the face wipes for good!

Aren’t many face wipes made to take skin off?

It’s an easy mistake. So face wipes are like baby wipes for getting your make up off. But people have been flushing them and they are causing chaos with the sewers! Xxxx

I know—we did…and got caught! 🙂 so even the flushable must go into the waste basket…until further notice!
