Love Your Curves This Christmas

Hello friends! Can you believe it’s only 35 days until Christmas day?! We all have a LOT to do! I’m talking about  present shopping, present wrapping, food preparation, booze buying and parties. Yes! All the parties! There’s no better excuse than to throw a party (or attend one!) than Christmas! However, the thought of it is often a little intimating. Am I the only one who imagines stepping into a room of sequin-clad beauties who look photoshoot ready?! Where as the reality is actually a room full of women and men of varying ages, sizes, shapes, as well as lots of food, laughter and merriment. Expect to smile until your cheeks hurt and spill at least one cocktail down your dress. My friends, we don’t live in a catalogue and nor do we want to, so please, let’s ditch the unrealistic images of intimidating parties and embrace our bodies, dance like our dads and generally have a roaring good time, because if you don’t do it at christmas, when will you!

Have Fun With Fashion

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, clothes are not magic tricks. No dress will make you look five sizes smaller, and no coat is an invisibility cloak. If you have chunky thighs, you will have chunky thighs no matter what you wear, so you may as well embrace your body and appreciate it for what it is, an amazing vehicle which helps you psychically navigate through life. People will notice you, people will talk to you and the chances are, that there won’t be a single catalogue model in the room! If your style is all-black-everything, then why not add a fabulous sequinned blazer to help you look fierce and fabulous, if you are more about the vintage life, then why not choose a slightly 70’s or 80’s silhouette in a luxe velvet, add some glitzy accessories and you have a look! And if you want to rock those thighs in a mini body-con sequinned dress, then you do it, the chances are everyone will love your sass and feel really inspired to do the same! My point is, have fun with fashion! Throw glitter and compliments around the room, accessorise with sequins and smile and have an incredible christmas! You worked hard all year long, so it’s time to reward yourself with good feelings, plenty of cocktails and an amazing time with friends! And please, please, please remember, your body is fabulous, no matter what size dress you buy and we are all worthy of feeling fabulous, because ladies… we are!

#PartyStyle101 For Curvy Girls

Simply Be asked their customers to share some of their questions and concerns about party dressing, and as a curvy girl myself, I want to share a few of my own tips and tricks and help to answer a few of these questions! Firstly, one customer asked ‘How do I hide my problem areas like upper arms and belly?’, well firstly, sleeves are your BFF. Even in the summer I never expose my upper arms, I think clothes with sleeves are so much nicer than sleeveless or strapless clothes. If you look at all the images in this post you will see that my upper arms are covered, yet I still look party ready!! As for hiding your tummy, firstly, very few people have flat stomachs, we know that right?! I would suggest something A-line which nips in at the waist to show off your killer curves, alternatively, you could choose something with smooths over your waist and avert eyes away from your wait with either cleavage or my personal favourite… sequins!! If  you take a look at the red velvet dress a few images below, you will see the waist is nipped in, which makes me feel really confident, where as the sequinned dress in the images below is more of a column shape and glides over my waist and hips. I wouldn’t wear a dress this shape in a block colour, but covered in sequins, I feel like it’s the sparkle which is making the statement, not my shape. Sequins never fail to make me feel fabulous, yet the shape of this dress feels really relaxed which I love! Finally, another customer asked about what shoes are best for curvy girls as they don’t feel like traditional scrappy party shoes are for them, and I totally agree!! Ladies, I’m all about the chunky heeled shoes and boots! I hate wearing shoes which show my toes and quite frankly, it’s Winter and far too cold to be wearing strappy shoes! I’ve pared all these outfits with these fabulous sequinned boots! I feel fierce in them and not only that, but the cushioned souls and chunky heels make them feel super comfortable and easy to walk in! Simply be have an amazing selection of super-cute shoes and boots which come in wide fits and cushioned soles, they are honestly the best selection of footwear for curvier girls because they are so darn comfortable, plus they are beautifully designed! I’m such a fan of their shoes! Also, just an FYI on their shoes sizes, I’m a shoe size 6.5, but I usually order a size 7 if I’m shopping online, but I’ve found the Simply Be shoe sizes are fairly generous so I usually order a size 6 which is always perfect for me! I hope that helps! My best advice is to choose clothes which work for you and you feel comfortable and confident in, because confidence is really the best accessory you can wear and if you feel good, you will look good!!! Feel free to tweet me (@labelsforlunch) if you have any questions or want suggestions and I’ll always try and help!
