Sometimes a fragrance comes along and it makes you feel very, very, very special. This my friends, is one of those moments. This is the tricolour exotic leather Birkin of the fragrance world and I want to share it’s opulent magic with you all! I’m VERY excited for this one and I beg you, next time you are milling around Selfridges, Harrods or Burlington Arcade, go find the Roja counter (or the store if you are in Burlington Arcade) and have a sniff around, because I promise, even if you don’t buy anything, the collection needs to be experienced to be appreciated. I’m such a huge fan girl for this brand and honestly, I can’t bang on about the quality enough. Annnyyyywayy!
Let’s chat about Roja A Goodnight Kiss, shall we? Well, first of all, it’s a really feminine fragrance. At times it reminds me of an old school fragrance from the 70’s or 80’s, the kind your rich grandma would wear with her pearls to lunch. But it also has a freshness which makes the perfume feel modern, fresh and exciting. There’s also a very powdery trail which makes me think of hollywood starlets from the golden age. In short, it smells like magic, mystery and romance! Intriguing right?! The perfume opens with aldehydes and bergamot, which are both fresh and nostalgic. The heart of the fragrance is a garland of all my favourite rich and fabulous florals; rose, ylang ylang, orange blossom, jasmine and violet to name just a few. At the base of the fragrance there are some slightly more tougher and classically masculine notes which gives the fragrance a bit more of an edge and balance out the soft femininity of the rest of the fragrance; leather, spice, cedarwood, clove and orris which gives it that real powdery feel. This fragrance conjures up feelings of warmth, nostalgia, excitement, comfort, safeness and magic. That moment we all know of our mothers kissing us goodnight before she heads out with our fathers for a rare and elegant evening. We all know that feeling and whilst so many perfumeries have tried to capture it, this is the only one that really has. Mr Dove, you are a fragrance storyteller… well done!
