Penhaligon's 'Elizabethan Rose' perfume

In Review….

Penhaligon’s fans (like me) might look at this post and think ‘Oh I know this perfume, it’s had a bottle redesign’. Well my friends, you are wrong! Feel free to imagine a gameshow style klaxon honking it’s universal ‘You’re Wrong’ buzzer at this moment, if you wish. I’m not saying this to shame you, I’m saying this because this is exactly what I thought when I saw the bottle and I literally heard this noise in my head when I realised my error! The original version of Penhaligon’s Elisabethan Rose was a simple, but beautiful fragrance which was a very fresh and green depiction of a single red rose. This newer incarnation of Elisabethan Rose shares the same name, and of course, a strong rose accord at the centre of the fragrance and even a hint of greenery, but there’s also been a little more magic added into the mix. Let’s deep dive into the rose garden!

Penhaligon’s Elisabethan Rose (2018 edition) opens with notes of Hazelnut Leaf, Almond Oil and Cinnamon, which sit alongside the dense rose to give it a hint of fresh greenery, as well as slightly sweet cinnamon spice and addictive, delicious almond accords. At the heart of the fragrance is a rose garden of rare and perfect red roses as well as a touch of red lily. It’s at this moment you start to really breathe deeply and appreciate the beauty of the red roses and all their glory. It’s so perfect! Only a few brands would dare to use ingredients as rare and expensive as Penhaligon’s do, you can just feel the quality, it’s so rich and spirited. I honestly can’t get enough! Finally, at the base of the fragrance is a blend of sensual musk, sweet woods and dry grassy vetiver, which is such a perfect and understated dry down. If you are a rose perfume addict like I am, you need to try this new incarnation of Elisabethan Rose because I’m sure you will adore it! And if roses aren’t your thing, then try this one, I have a feeling it might change your mind, it’s pure perfection!

Penhaligon’s ‘Elisabethan Rose’ is out now and available at Penhaligon’s. It is priced at £137 for a 100ml bottle.
