I Bought The Chanel Shopping Bag (GST)
Years ago I almost bought the Chanel GST about 3 times, every time I bought it something came up… usually another handbag! It had always been on my wishlist for it’s slightly 80’s styling, jumbo size and general fabulousness. But before I knew it, the Chanel GST had been discontinued and the price had rocketed on the pre-loved market. I searched around but I found they were either too expensive, in terrible condition, or I just didn’t trust the source (a girl HAS to be careful where she buys her pre-loved designer goodies!).
Chiswick Auction House
A few weeks ago I blogged about the amazing Designer Handbag & Fashion sale that was being held at Chiswick Auctions. I didn’t want to jinx myself, but I did a little bidding myself and that’s how I got my hands on this amazing vintage red Chanel Shopping Bag (GST). It’s quilted red caviar leather with silver tone hardwear. 34cm wide, 24cm tall and grade B+ condition (Some signs of gentle use or wear). Isn’t it a beauty?!
Shopping At Auction
It was my first time shopping at auction for designer fashions and I have to admit, it couldn’t have been any easier!! I simply emailed my list of lot numbers and my highest price to the team, 24 hours ahead of the auction and they bid on my behalf. Once the auction was over, I got an email saying ‘Congratulations’ and an invoice! A quick payment later and I headed off to London to collect it with a big ol’ smile on my face!
Let’s Talk £££
Ok, so the money side of things! Well, the handbag is now discontinued so it’s impossible to buy it in store, but from what I can see online, a pre-loved GST can go for anything from £1,200 to £3,000 depending on the colour and condition. I personally wanted either the black caviar leather (classic!) or a bright colour like red, so when I saw this one, I put in a bid and hoped for the best! The auction estimate was £1,300-£1,500 so I put £1,400 as my bid, right in the middle and I figured if it was meant to be, it would happen, and alas… It happened! Now here’s something to remember, when you buy at auction you pay the hammer price plus a charge to the auction house as a buyers fee, so I ended up paying £1,820 which I think is pretty good for the Chanel GST in such lovely condition and such a lovely colour! I’m so happy with it!
Now It’s Your Turn!
Lolz! Only if you want! But if you are tempted to buy designer goodies at Chiswick Auctions the next sale is on May 16th and you can view the catalogue here. I’m planning on buying myself a little treat and not only that, I’ve even submitted a few pieces to the sale, but more on that later! I’ve linked a load of Chanel Shopping Bags below if you want to do some price comparing and have a look at what it looks like in other colours. I’m seriously smitten with mine!
