Coach Rogue Bag Review

Over the past few years Coach have upped their game, I mean REALLY upped their game. It’s been the kind of transformation that most brands could only dream of and I’m SO on board it hurts (my bank balance, not my heart). They’ve gone from being a nice, safe heritage American brand to be a sh*t-hot OMG-I-need-that-it’s-the-best-thing-ever New York brand. Don’t get me wrong, they were always a New York City based company, but now they are a New York F****ing City brand. In short, Colette is no more, Opening Ceremony is over, now we all wanna party with Coach! So here my friends is my Coach Rogue Bag Review!

Why Coach Are A Great Brand For 2021

So, what caused this change? Stuart Vevers, that’s who! This Brit became creative director in 2013 and he’s made some big changes. The quality has gotten even better, the designs have gotten cooler, he created the 1941 Collection and all the stars aligned for Coach, metaphorically and celebrities. From the bags, to the shoes, to the RTW collection, there is so much amazing-ness to be found at Coach these days, seriously, just check out the latest collection. It’s brilliant!! And if that doesn’t get you, the collabs are incredible too!

Coach Rogue

Anyway, let’s chat about the Coach Rogue handbag shall we? I LOVE this bag, I got my first one about a year ago in red pebble leather. I was instantly smitten with the tactile grain, the simple shape, the smart – casual look and it’s effortless cool. In fact, I love it so much that a month ago I added a second Rogue into my wardrobe. It’s black calfskin leather with chevron decorative stitching and stud work detailing. One of the reasons I love the Coach Rogue handbag is because it screams quality. Everything from the thick perfect leather and heavy brass metal-work, to the construction and stitching. It reminds me a little of my mums saddle, beautiful thick leather and stitched like only the old pro’s know how. I hate to admit it, but I bought handbags which have been double the price and half the quality of the Rogue. Also, if you want to know if Coach bags are worth the money, then have a read!

Best Coach Bag For Commuters

Back when I used to live in London, I lived on the boarder of zone 1 and 2, I could easily walk down to Shoreditch for my groceries, or hop on the tube to central London and be there in a jiffy. Now that I live in Margate, my London days tend to come with a little more luggage, like a lot more luggage. These days, I pack my handbag full of phone chargers (both a portable charger and wall charger), Snacks (I love a cereal bar), make up (I’m a face toucher, I gotta re-apply!), camera & lenses (you never know where you’re gonna find your next piece of content!) and well as a whole heap of other junk which just-so-happens to be at the bottom of my bag. In short, I’m no longer the itsy-bitsy-handbag kinda girl. I need room to rummage! Which is one of the reasons I love the Coach Rogue bag, it’s space! There’s lots of places for everything you need, from bulky items like camera / iPad / Macbook Air, to smaller items you need super accessible like phone, cards and lipstick. There’s space for everything and if you want to zip it away you can, and if you want to leave it open, you can.

How To Wear The Coach Rogue Bag

Also the bag can be worn two ways, as a top handle bag like I’m carrying it in the photos, or with the two longer straps over the shoulder. When you are wearing it this way, the shorter straps are the perfect size to neatly fold into the top of the bag. I don’t know if you can see from the images, but there is an inch or so between the top of the bag and the interior zips which is the perfect place to fold these handles into when you are carrying the bag over your shoulder with the long straps. Personally I carry this bag in my hand 90% of the time, but there have been moments where I have thrown it over my shoulder because I’ve got a coffee in one hand and my phone in the other, it’s nice to have the option!

As for the longer straps, personally I like to keep them clipped onto the bag and let the hang down as I think it matches my style more this way, but if that’s not your look and you want the bag to look a little smarter, then simply unclip them and store them in the dustbag at home. Again, the Coach tags can be kept on the bag and hung of it casually (see red bag images), or they can be easily taken off (see black bag images) to keep the bag looking uncluttered. The Rogue looks simple and smart without the tags and the long straps attached, which makes it a great city / work handbag. However, with the straps and the tags left on, it gives the handbag a more casual and edgy look, so it perfectly fits into you week and weekend wardrobe.

Practically Perfect

Can you believe I have banged on about how much I love this handbag for almost 1000 words?! A true testament to how much I love the Rogue! Anyway, I just wanted to point out a few extra things about this bag. Firstly, the studs on the bottom mean the handbag stands upright and and keeps the leather away from any dirty restaurant or transport floors. The actual weight of the handbag isn’t too bad, especially considering the amount of leather and the sturdy hardwear, somehow it doesn’t weigh a tonne once it’s piled high with my daily junk.

The style of leather used for both Rogues I have is designed to age well. What do I mean? Well, some bags once they get a little worn get a bit of a ‘last season’ or ‘past their best’ feel to them, where as the thick almost equestrian style leather Coach have used only gets better with age and develops a beautiful patina rather than look old and tired. For me, the Coach Rogue has the whole package; it’s practical for day-to-day use, easy to style up, beautifully made, hard wearing and a damned good handbag for the money. Well done, Stuart, well done!

Is Coach Discontinuing The Rogue?

Coach have not discontinued the Rogue, they did make the collection smaller for a while, but it’s been redesigned for this season and it’s one of the hottest silhouettes of the moment for Coach, alongside the Tabby. Also, if you want a custom made Coach Rogue bag, this service is available from the London flagship store.

What is the most popular Coach handbag?

The most popular Coach bag right now is the Coach Tabby bag, however, the Cassie is also a beautiful bag as is the Rogue. They also have some really cool and collectable limited edition styles which are very popular for collectors.

Are Coach Bags High Quality?

Yes! Coach bags are super high quality, especially styles like the Rogue in pebble leather! Coach bags tend to get better with age too. They are on a par with Mulberry bags and better quality than Michael Kors and Kate Spade.

Can You Buy Replacement Straps For Coach Bags?

Yes. you can buy replacement straps for Coach bags. You can buy them here on the Coach website. They are a great way to replace old straps which might not be as strong as they once were. Or you can update and refresh your favourite Coach bag with a brand new strap which makes it feel new and exciting!

Update! Two Years On!

It’s two years, in fact, almost three years since I wrote this blog post and I thought it was about time I caught you up on how I feel about the coach rogue bag all these years on! Funnily enough, at the time I would say the rogue was ‘the’ Coach bag. But now, I would say the Tabby bag has become the iconic silhouette bag of the coach collection. As much as I love the Tabby, because I do, I still find myself loving the Rogue more. There’s just something about the rogue I can’t get enough of! Maybe it’s the size which makes it so practical, or the unisex vibe which makes it so hip, or maybe that incredible thick pebble leather which I adore. There’s just something about the rogue which never tire of. The size is perfect, the grainy leather is amazing, the simple sleek vibe is perfection. Admittedly, it is one of the most expensive bags in the collection, but it’s worth the extra money and the quality is second to none! Also, little know fact, but when I was in the London store recently they told me they make custom Rogue bags which is VERY exciting!!!!! So if you feel like living your best handbag life and you want to make your own bespoke bag, then this is the bag you can do it with! In short, I love the coach rogue after all these years, it’s still my fave coach bag!!!!
