When I was younger, the cynical side of me thought Mother’s Day was an invented holiday created by card companies. However, as I got older, I realised that Mother’s Day is actually a really lovely time to stop and think about how amazing mums are and thank them for all the amazing things they do for us! My mum’s been known to send me cough syrup in the post when I’ve been ill, she’s recently made me blinds and curtains for my whole house (seriously, it’s taken up so much of her time and they look absolutely stunning) and she’ll happily bake a cake as soon as the word ‘birthday’ is mentioned, even if she hasn’t meet the person who’s big day it is. I’m pretty sure your mum does similar ‘mum acts of kindness’.

These days, I live about 300 miles away from my parents and it’s not always possible for me to go visit my mum for a cup of tea on Mother’s Day, so instead I usually write her a note and pop a gift in the post. It’s always followed up with a phone call in which she tells me it was completely unexpected and how touched she is to receive the package. The cynical side of me has been silenced, it’s so nice to be able to surprise my mum with a little gift and a few words of thank you. Perfume is always one of my favourite gifts to give and receive. It’s the ultimate every day indulgence and a good perfume makes you feel amazing! It will be perfect for her to use on-the-go and it’s also amazing for travel as it’s hand luggage friendly. The summer holidays are around the corner, after all! Personally I have picked out a bottle of the classic Signature scent of Chloe. It’s filled with notes of rose, powdery florals, lychee, amber and cedarwood. It’s elegant, timeless and just as beautiful on the inside, as it is on the outside! Wrap it up in a the prettiest box or tissue you have and put a big fancy bow around it. If you are like me and you have to post the gift ahead of time, ask your dad to intercept the parcel, hide and and present it to her on the Sunday morning. Perhaps give you dad instructions to hand it over with a cup of tea!

Hand-Tied Flowers

Mother’s Day flowers can sometimes be a bit naff, my advice is avoid the cheesy supermarket mixed bouquets which are covered in glitter (yuck!) and instead head to your local florist for a simple and elegant hand-tied bunch of blooms. Personally, I love to add eucalyptus as it smells SO good and I keep the colours fairly simple to keep them tasteful! On the flip-side, if your mum loves colourful flowers, you can’t beat a bunch of tulips. Every Good Day Deserves Cake…

I truly believe every great day deserves a slice of cake! Normally it’s our mums who do the baking, but today, it’s our turn. Or in my case, it’s time to find the best bakers in town! Serve with a cup of tea and radio 4 playing in the background and you have yourself a pretty amazing day! Between the perfume, flowers and cakes, you’re gonna knock your mums socks off!
