It’s important that you know something about my boyfriend: He has impeccable taste in fragrance. Around the time we first met I remember asking what he was wearing (Tom Ford) and he thinks nothing of dropping £160 on a bottle of Frederic Malle. If you think I have expensive taste in fragrance, then you should open the bottom draw of his bedside table where he keeps his current bottles, there are multiple bottles of Roja, Penhaligon’s and Byredo, to name just a few. What can I say, he likes to smell good!
One brand he forever revisits is Acqua di Parma, mainly the classic Colonia fragrance which is filled with Italian sun-drenched citrus fruit, spices and woody accords. It’s a particular favourite for the summer, as it cuts through the hot stuffy air. He also wears it when he’s hosting a meeting and wants to give off a distinguished yet energetic vibe. A few months ago, Acqua di Parma added a new version of Colonia to the collection, Colonia Pura. It’s a slightly more modern version of the fragrance, it’s still filled with zesty citrus fruits, spice and woods, but there have been a few changes, the cinnamon has been switched for the fresher, greener (but still spicy) coriander. Jasmine and narcissus take the place of rose, and petit grain and bergamot have replaced grapefruit. The fragrance still has the same citrus / floral / spice / wood structure as the classic, but the single accords have been switched around giving it the same classic feel with new and exciting twists. He’s still undecided on which version he likes best, his beloved and classic Colonia, or the new, slightly more modern and exhilarating Colonia Pura, but does he really need to choose? I think not! If your man is a Colonia fan, then make sure you introduce him to Colonia Pura soon, alternatively surprise him with a bottle for Christmas, because if he loves the original, I can’t see how he couldn’t love this one too!
