Home: Finding Hallway Inspiration

Home is Where the Hallway Is…

One of the reasons we first fell in love with our house is down the the hallway. It is a huge room, with a big beautiful victorian door, large stained glass sash windows and a rather majestic fireplace and staircase. We loved the high ceilings and the vast space and we felt with a little love and attention it could be amazing. (Side note: If you want to see the progress, please do check out my Instagram stories, I’m @labelsforlunch). Of course there was a fair bit of work to be done to it, the green carpets had to be ripped up, the room had to be rewired and the ceiling had to come down, but after a few months and a lot of dust and grot, we striped it back, ready to decorate! Now here’s the problem and bare with me, because it’s a bit of a ‘my diamond shoes are too tight’ style problem. The room is big, fabulous and filled with potential, the only problem is, it had too much potential! It’s a big ol’ hallway and it almost has too much space, most hallways have enough room for a console table and coat stand, but ours has enough room for, well, whatever we fancied… which is when I started thinking about arcade machines, sculptures, chaise lounges and so much more. I was getting a bit carried away and a bit confused….

Taking Inspiration

As much as I love the idea of having a giant sculpture in the hallway (I thought a giant lion could be cool) I was a little worried it might scare the life out of our guests! So, back to the drawing board. Or in my case, the Pinterest board. I knew I wanted to keep the hallway light and bright, I also wanted to make sure the room transitioned nicely into the kitchen. I have a lot of Pinterest boards, but there are a few images I keep coming back to in regards to our hallway, many of them have reoccurring themes of exposed bricks, industrial lighting, antique grandeur mixed in with pops of green and plenty of house plants. On the flip side, I had also been thinking about neon signs, rainbow stairs and round pink sofas… What’s a girl to do right?!

Bourne & Hollingsworth

A few weeks ago I was arranging a lunch with some of my friends and I mentioned the idea of going to Bourne & Hollingsworth. I’m still not quite sure if I wanted to visit because of the food or the decor, but as soon as I walked in, I fell in love. I mean, who could resist those sun drenched rooms with oodles of house plants, palm print vintage chairs, antique radiators and plush velvet benches, I mean, it’s just stunning! I’m pretty sure my gaze was everywhere during that delicious lunch and I’m not sure how focused I was on the conversation because I was so busy looking around and thinking ‘Could elements of this work in our hallway?!’. It’s a beautiful mix of old and new with plenty of textures and prints, and whilst it’s light and bright, it’s still got some great pops of colour thrown in. Stunning! I’m still not 100% sure what direction we are going to go for in the hallway, but Bourne & Hollingsworth has definitely given me some inspiration and ideas…. stay tuned for what we do over the next few weeks, and in the mean time, just look at this dreamy decor! Have you ever seen a more beautiful restaurant?!

As always, please do comment below and let me know what you think of this decor, I would love to hear your thoughts!
