In Review…

I don’t know if this next statement is going to make me sound like a control freak, but hear me out…. Sometimes I like to choose which fragrance my boyfriend wears. It’s not that he has bad taste, on the contrary, he has very good taste, but the thing is, whilst I quickly get immune to my own fragrances, I can smell his all day long and sometimes that makes me happier than my own perfume. Sometimes I like him to wear rich, dark, leathery and oud-y fragrances, other times, I like him to wear something a little fresher and more citrus based, y’know depending on my mood and the season! Today, I’m going to share a new and very special fragrance with you all, which fits into the latter category…

Elysium is the brand new male fragrance from Roja Dove. Unlike his usual fragrances, it’s a cologne, so it’s a little more affordable than the rest of his EDP fragrances, but thanks to his skills as a perfumer and the phenomenal ingredients he uses, it still lasts all day and has a real feeling of power to it. Elysium opens with a burst of citrus notes; Lemon, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lime, but it also has a hint of herbaceous green tones with the Thyme and Artemisia. Also, and rather unusually, there is musk and patchouli at the top of the fragrance, which gives the fragrance an instant feel of complexity which will become even more apparent as the heart notes are exposed. Speaking of which, at the heart of the fragrance you will find Lily of the Valley, Rose de Mai, Jasmin de Grasse, Apple and Blackcurrant which adds a little fruity sweetness to the perfume as well as some rich floral notes. The base is spicy, woody and leathery with notes of pink pepper, cedarwood, leather, amber, vanilla and musk. Forgive me for the long list of ingredients, but I really want to emphasise the fact that this is no simple citrus cologne, instead it’s complex, masculine and exciting. It has an element of citrus fruits, summer sun and aquatic accords, but it also has plenty of spices, leathers and woods which really bring the fragrance to life and add that carnal intensity which Roja is known for. Whilst H Aoud will forever be my boyfriends’ favourite Roja fragrance, Elysium comes in a larger bottle at a slightly lower price, which makes it perfect for everyday wear, rather than special occasions. Men, if you have always loved Roja Dove fragrances but never been able to splurge on a bottle, then now is your chance, Elysium is stunning and well within reach! BRB… my boyfriend wants his bottle back, he hates it when I steal his stuff to photograph!

Roja ‘Elysium’ is out now and available from Selfridges, Harrods, and Roja (Instore & online).
