Travel Treats: Chanel Number 5

I swear, it feels like just five minutes since I was in Egypt sunning myself (well, shading myself, if that’s a term?!) but actually, it’s almost two months now. It’s scary how fast time goes and how long it has taken me to actually finish this blog post, maybe my spirit is still on the beach, sipping a cocktail with a ‘menyana’ attitude!

Sweet Deal

The funny thing about Chanel, is I have a pretty hefty collection. Some would even call it an obsession. I have bags, shoes, scarves, you name it, I love it, but when it comes to Chanel make-up and perfume, my collection is pretty sparse. Just before I went to Egypt, I decided it was time to change this and where better to make a few purchases than at the airport. You see the thing about Chanel is that it never goes on sale, they never have BOGOF’s, GWP’s or even discount days. The only time you can get yourself a sneaky discount is at the airport, thanks to World Duty Free. Let’s be honest, a 20% discount on Chanel is a sweet deal!

Chanel Bronzer & Lipstick

I was travelling with my friend Hayley and we didn’t have much time, so I had to make a pretty speedy decision on my purchases, so I went for the classics, Chanel No. 5 which I have always loved and actually don’t own a bottle of, Les Beige Bronzer and Rouge Allure Ink Lipstick. I love the soft texture of the bronzer an the warm glow it gives to my skin and sculpting. The lipstick is the perfect shade of red, long lasting and richly pigmented. How could I resist?!

Chanel No. 5

Ah, where do I begin with this iconic fragrance!? Firstly, this is a perfume which some people love and others hate. It’s been reformulated over the years, so if you remember it as a child and disliking it, it might be worth trying it again, as some of the ingredients have changed slightly and it’s a little less potent than it once was. Also, your ‘nose’ will change over the years, as children we love the smells of fruits and candy, but it’s only when we get older we appreciate the scent of florals, woods, spices, resins and ouds…. Did I get sidetracked? I think so! Anyway, I’m so happy I bought myself a bottle of Chanel No. 5 because I adore the scent of the the classic floral aldehydes mixed with citrus, woods, vanilla and musk. It was first developed in 1921, it’s wonderfully elegant, chic and classic, I feel so good about myself when I wear it and at airport prices, how could I resist!?

So there we have it, my World Duty Free treats from my last travels! What do you treat yourself to at the airport? PS. If you are short of time at the airport, you can now order online most items at the WDF website and pick it all up when you arrive. It saves a lot of time and it enables you to rummage through your make-up and figure out exactly which shades you want to repurchase and do some online research on which new products you want to invest in!
