In Review…

Ah! Does fashion get any cooler than the elusive Maison Margiela? I think not! Which is why I had to do a little investigation into the ‘Replica’ perfume collection by the same label. Each fragrance is inspired by a different moment, place or time in life; Lazy Sunday Morning, Flower Market, Tea Escape, Jazz Club, Funfair EveningPromenade in the Gardens and Lipstick On. I have Lazy Sunday Morning, because it’s a time and place I’m always happy to return to and it’s such a beautiful, quiet rose-based fragrance.

Whilst I normally favour rich, heavy, dark and smoky fragrances, sometimes it’s just too early in the day for perfumes like that and a girl needs something a little softer and airier. Maison Margiela ‘Lazy Sunday Morning’  is like the most perfect memory of a Sunday morning. True to it’s name, it really does conjure up feelings of clean white linen, open windows, early mornings, fresh flowers and newsprint, all enjoyed with a loved one by your side. It’s subtle but never boring, sun-bleached but not beachy and clean without being sterile. It contains notes of translucent florals; Rose, Lily of the Valley, Orange flower and Iris, with a hint of  fresh Pear. As for the Aldehydes, this accord gives it both a clean, lemony, floral soapy feel, but also give the fragrance a slight nod to the classics (it’s a similar note to that you will find in Chanel No. 5, Lanvin Arpege and Hermes Caleche). Maison Margiela Lazy Sunday Morning is the scent of clean sheets, soft roses and endless sunday mornings, it’s perfect for the summer mornings and also those who favour their perfumes to be a little more casual, quietly elegant and minimalist. It’s just lovely!

Maison Margiela ‘Lazy Sunday Morning’ is priced at £95 for a 100ml bottle and it is available from SelfridgesJohn Lewis and Nordstrom for my US-based friends.
