Guerlain Oud Essentiel perfume

In Review…

OK, so I know it’s hot sunshine right now and not exactly ‘oud weather’, but I couldn’t resist giving this little gem a few minutes of time on my blog. I just love it and it’s definitely one to consider buying in the Autumn months when you are thinking about something a little darker, sexier and more enveloping! Guerlain Oud Essential reminds me of a hotel bar in the heart of London or Paris, the kind of place which hasn’t changed for 50 years and nor have the cocktail waiters. The leather booths are worn with a rich patina, the bar has seen decades of wood oil and spilt cocktails and the whiskey behind the counter just gets better and better with age. The fragrance is rich and heady with dominant notes of frankincense (reminding me of the male groomers, Trumpers where you date probably frequents), Amber (slightly sweet, warm and woodsy) and oud (intoxicating and smoky, reminding me of tobacco infused antiques). I love the velvety rose notes, the sharp  almost sour saffron, powdery tones and rich worn leather accords. When blended together the fragrance is elegant, sensual, smoky and perfectly matured like a fine spirit. Trust me, this is one you need sample for yourself, it’s wonderful! PS. Guerlain Oud Essential unisex and both my boyfriend and I are trying to claim it as our own before we both love it so much. It’s got a real impact to the scent and lasts all day. It reminds me a little of one of my all time favourite fragrances, Terryific Oud by Terry De Gunzburg. If you don’t like this fragrance, I’m not sure we can be friends… #justsaying!

Guerlain Oud Essentiel is available as a 125ml bottle and available from Guerlain, Neiman MarcusBergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.
