Bedroom Blues
When we moved into our house a year and a half ago, I had no idea it would take so long to renovate and decorate! Most of my things are still in storage boxes and we have gone from sleeping in an extension to the lounge and now finally our bedroom! I’m so happy it’s finally finished and I’m so so so happy to share the images with you all! I know it looks simple, but believe me, this whole room took so much work, love and money, I can’t even explain, although I will try to…. Also a huge thank you to BrandAlley for helping me out with so many beautiful accessories!
Windows & Fireplace
Our house dates back to the 1860’s so we are lucky enough to have so many original features. However, stained glass is fairly fragile so some of the window panes needed replacing as they were cracked and a few of the locks had broken. We decided to get some specialists in to overhaul the windows, they have been completely stripped and repainted, with the weights rehung, locks chained, broken glass replaced and so much more! They looked beautiful but scruffy before, now they look rather lovely! As for the fireplace, we didn’t do a huge amount here, but we did take amount the mount as it was rather bulky and we striped back some of the paint and most noticeably, we took away the top part of the fireplace. It was just so huge before and it kind of overpowered the room.
Floors
When we ripped up the gross green carpets, we were lucky enough to find the original floorboards in great condition. So we made the decision to sand them down and paint them, because y’know, #bloggerlife. It’s actually a lot harder work than you might think, first of all, ripping up carpets is HARD work. Those bad boys are heavy and stuck down hard. As is the underlay and the carpet grips (those things are lethal… wear gloves!). Then we spent a good amount of time on our hands and knees pulling out any exposed nails as otherwise these rip the sanding belt apart. Then you sand them down with four different grades of sandpaper, and go round the edges with a second machine to get all the corners. Then it’s good to paint with woodworm treatment, just in case and then we painted with 2/3 coats of floor paint. It took forever and it was super hard work, but I’m so proud of our floors now!
Bedding
My towels and bedding are from Sheridan, I am a huge fan of Sheridan, they make the most beautiful blankets, throws, sheets and cushions. It’s not cheap, but if you can find it on sale, it’s totally worth indulging in. I nearly flipped out when I saw how much they have on BrandAlley. These bedding would usually be out of my price range, but thanks to BrandAlley, they were totally affordable, aren’t they lovely? As for the cushions, again, I scored these on sale at BrandAlley, I’m so happy with them! They are reversible so if you want to put them in different rooms you can flip them around to show different colours and match with different colour schemes. Finally, the beautiful throw on the chair is also from BrandAlley, it’s so soft and cosy, I’m so happy with it!
Bedside Tables
We spent a long time searching for bedside tables, we actually saw these almost two years ago at the beginning of our search but we decided £1,000 for 2 bedside tables was too much. So we hunted around and found we didn’t like anything else as much, so we took the plunge and bought these ones regardless. We love the design, they have a good amount of storage and they are super well built. I feel confident that we will be able to use these for many, many years to come!
Light Fittings
Choosing light fittings is insanely hard! We bought free standing lights at first, and as lovely as they are, we felt we wanted something a little more minimalist and instead opted for these Anglepoise wall-mounted lights. The powder blue tone matched the wall colour perfectly and I love the way they don’t clutter up the bedside table. As for the ceiling light, I might switch this for a pendant light at some point but for now, we have this chunky industrial style cord and bulb from Industville, which is a great place for affordable and industrial style lighting.
Garden Flowers
Finally, I can’t quite believe I am saying this, but these beautiful pink hydrangeas were growing in my garden, I couldn’t resist picking them and putting them in my new Orla Kiely vase. Between these blooms and my new candles, I honestly feel like I’m living the middle aged dream, but y’know, a little more colourfully than most!
♥
So, there we have it, my bedroom make-over! It’s taken a sweet time, but hopefully you will all like it, please do let me know what you think! And thank you again to BrandAlley for helping me out with some of the accessories!
