Seriously can someone tell me where on earth the month has gone? In fact, can someone tell me where the year has gone?! I am clueless! However, looking back over the month, I have been obsessed with quite a few things. Sometimes it’s the simple things which make all the difference…
Miu Miu Perfume
I’m always a fan of Miu Miu fragrances and not just because the bottles are a work of art, seriously, just look at them!! This latest addition to the Miu Miu fragrance collection is stunning, L’Eau Bleue is filled with notes of lily of the valley and honeysuckle as well aquatic notes and fresh green leaves. It’s a lovely day time fragrance, perfect for the summer months!
I’m still a podcast addict, however, I spend most of my time recommending podcasts, rather than getting recommendations myself, so if you have any suggestions for me, please do tweet me (@labelsforlunch) or comment below! This month I have been loving the podcast Accused, which tells the story of the 40 year old murder of Elizabeth Andes, a college girl who was found dead in her apartment by her boyfriend. After hours of questioning he made (what looks like) a false confession and her real killer has never been found. This podcast investigates if it wasn’t her boyfriend, who was it?! On the subject of murders, I’m also loving Convicted Podcast and Suspect Convictions so make sure you subscribe to that. If murders aren’t your thing, then I highly recommend Rookie Podcast which I LOVE and there are some new episodes of Reply All out now too… Go listen! PS. My headphones are by Happy Plugs, aren’t they cute?!
Moschino Overnight Bag
Can you believe this bag came free with a perfume!?! Seriously! Not even kidding! I usually associate ‘perfume handbags’ with cheap, plastic bags which cheapen the brand and fragrance. Y’know, the kind that you wouldn’t be seen dead carrying and have the words ‘Perfume’ printed everywhere. This bag is special, the quality is great, the design is awesome and the print makes me oh-so-happy! It’s an incredible deal which I blogged about here, but damn, I love this bag, it’s so cool!
Tan Luxe Gradual Tan
I’m one of those people who burns fast and then moans for hours on end about how much it hurts. In preparation for my trip to Egypt, I thought I would apply just a little fake tan, just enough to take the pinky-yellow tone out of my skin. Now here is where I made an error, we all know the rules of fake tan: Exfoliate and apply carefully and evenly. I did exactly the opposite. I didn’t exfoliate, and I didn’t apply evenly, I just slapped it onto my un-exfoliated skin. I missed giant patches, I left finger marks, hell, I didn’t even wash my hands afterwards! The following day, I had brown hands and pretty patchy legs, but within a day or two it had toned down and naturally evened out. Despite the fact I applied Tan Luxe VERY badly, I was actually really happy with the results, the colour was lovely, it smelt weirdly good and it made me feel a lot more confident in a swimsuit. Take this as both a warning and a recommendation: Exfoliate and apply with care, and Tan Luxe is great!
That Pink Coat
I think my favourite outfit post of the month has to be this one, where I wore my pink coat. I have had this coat for a while now and I wasn’t that into it at first, but now, I adore it! I have had so many emails and messages about this outfit post, noone seems to be able to believe the coat is from Next and so many people have commented on how high-end it looks. Isn’t it a beaut?!
This month saw Ciate release their new Glow-To Illuminating Blushers. What can I say? These little cuties are just gorgeous, they give a super pretty blush with a touch of highlight. I love the shades, I love the gold tone highlight they give and I think they are another winning product from Ciate. At £22 each, they aren’t the cheapest but I can’t help but love them regardless!!
Vichy Sun Care
Just before I left for Egypt, I got a delivery of Vichy Sun Care in the post. I have no idea how they knew I was going to Africa, but they sent me the perfect pre-holiday package! Firstly, thank you to Vichy, it was very kind and timely of you! Secondly, I’m really impressed by the suncare, I used the spray-on protection to mist over any tricky spots like feet / toes / back of neck, as well as on-the-go top-ups, I used the SPF50 Body Oil for arms and legs which was really light and easily absorbed and finally the SPF50 BB Cream which not only protected my skin, but also gave a good amount of coverage and evened out my skin tone. Usually these kinds of products are too dark for me, but amazingly, the shade matched my pale skin perfectly, so I was super happy! Staying safe in the sun is incredibly important to me, as I burn FAST, so I’m really impressed with these products and would highly recommend them to all my pasty friends out there!
‘Searching for Sugar Man’
We watch a lot of documentaries in the evenings, but by far one of the best things I have seen in a while has to be Searching for Sugar Man. I think we watched it on Netflix and I didn’t stop thinking about it for days. It’s the story of a brilliant musician who’s albums were largely forgotten, except in South Africa. Everyone I know who has seen it, loved it. Everyone who hasn’t seen it, is put off by the title. It’s important you watch this, it’s brilliant!
Too Faced Love Light Highlighters
On the subject on new releases and highlighters, this month also saw the UK release of Too Faced’s new Love Light Prismatic Highlighters. These beauties have been ALL over Instagram for a while now, mainly because people have been importing them from the USA, but they are finally available here and for all you highlighter addicts, these are a must. They make you glow HARD!
Buttercrumble Telephone Scarf
You guys must know by now how much I love a good silk scarf and I recently discovered a really cool new brand called Buttercrumble who make the cutest printed scarves. It was a tough call, but eventually I went for this telephone print! It’s a bit warm to wear it right now, but I’m so excited about styling it up when the temperature drops! They also have a lipstick print scarf as well as loads of others, so make sure you check them out!
Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy
I have been wearing Estee Lauder lipsticks for years. Fans of the brand will know every year they create a huge beauty box, my mum gets one of these every single year and one of the few things she would never use in it would be the red lipstick. I usually ended up being mine! Some people wonder which came first, the chicken or the egg, me I wonder if I wore the red lipstick because she gave it to me, or if she gave it to me because I wore it?! Who knows! But I’m still wearing them now! This month Estee Lauder laughed their new lipstick collection, Pure Color Envy and I LOVE the reds, they give a lovely rich colour, they make my lips look full and they last for hours and they just work… y’know?! FYI, these days I have oodles of lipsticks, but there was a time when I only had one, I honestly believe you can get by with one great lipstick as long as it’s amazing. I know I did for years and it was always EL!
Soma Bay, Egypt
May saw me jetting off to sunnier climates, Soma Bay, Egypt to be exact! It was so nice to see the sun, palm trees, pink sunsets and deep blue seas. I spent a good chunk of the holiday in the spa and I even went snorkelling in the Red Sea… surely that’s one for the bucket list?! I took thousands of photos whilst I was there because I really wanted to capture just how magical it was!
Ren Skincare ‘Atlantic Kelp & Magnesium’ Bath Soak
This month something really special dropped through my letterbox… the new Ren Skincare Atlantic Kelp & Magnesium collection! I have been loving the hand wash because it’s seasalt and seaweed vibes make it smell fresh and invigorating with a twist. I have also been obsessed with the anti-fatigue bath oil, it smells fresh and spa-y with notes of sage, rosemary, cyprus and geranium. It contains kelp, magnesium and algae, which help to soften, hydrate and sooth skin. It’s just lovely!
Malteasers’s Hot Chocolate
Ok, so I have been trying to stop snacking this month, which has been going really well, but I have also indulged in a few delightfully delicious hot chocolates! Technically it’s a drink rather than a snack and it’s only a handful of calories per cup, so I think I’m ok! Anyway, I found this Malteasers hot chocolate in the local supermarket and it’s so deliciously malty and chocolatey, I would even go as far to say it’s NICER than a classic hot chocolate! So good!
I think these might be the cutest shoes I have ever seen! They are by Boden and I bloody love them! I think we all know I’m a huge fan of Boden, but their summer collection is incredible! I love these shoes, as well as these handbags and I am obsessed with this dress. I’m actually thinking of buying myself a second one because I love so much!!! Oh and the Icons collection is amazing!
This month I worked on a few exciting projects, but my favourite has to be the one I did with Slissie. They challenged me to stop snacking with the help of their Slissie device and I’m insanely impressed at how well it’s worked! Just last night (Friday night) I ate dinner and somehow managed to skip desert and sofa-chocolate and instead just had a little Slissie instead. Seriously, I feel like I deserve a medal for resisting the urge to snack on a Friday night! You can read the post here.
Ok, how could I not mention this pencil shape cushion!? I bought it in Ikea, it was actually in the children’s department next to brightly coloured single-bedding and other cushions in the shape of basket balls, clouds and child-friendly shapes. We didn’t intentionally go into the children’s department, we were just walking through (as you have to in ikea) so when I popped it in the trolly he looked at me as if to say ‘are you freakin’ kidding me?!’. At this point I loaded up the trolly with ALL the novelty cushions and he was like ‘Oh no you don’t!’. To which I said ‘Can I just get one?!’ which was of course the pencil. He agreed we could take one, and I smugly put all the other cushions back on display because I only actually wanted the pencil! Oh the games I have to play the fill our house with novelty treats!
So, there we have it, my favourite things in May, please drop me a comment and let me know if you have been obsessed with any of these things and if not, what have you been loving?
