I Got Beef
There are times when I have beef with style bloggers. Whilst I love browsing through my favourite blogs and seeing new and exciting designers and trends; there are times when I come away and feel a little… meh. I don’t wanna be a green-eyed-monster but damn, that 20-year-old is wearing a £3,000 handbag and a £2,000 coat, both of which will only be worn once. It’s easy to come away from blogs and think ‘Damn, she’s so rich, I can barely scrape together enough money for a Deliveroo on Friday night!’. It’s unintentional, of course, but sometimes bloggers & influencers do such an amazing job of making their lives (and wardrobes) look amazing, that on a bad day, it can make the rest feel a little, well, sh*t. Well, my friends, I’m here for a quick reality check, not all those items are their own. Often bloggers will loan items from designers and showrooms to wear for outfit posts. They get worn, shot and returned. Even designer handbags can be borrowed from brands and resellers for promotion, just because they are swinging it around in a photo, doesn’t mean it’s theirs forever. In short, don’t let it get you down and dampen any of your own successes; enjoy the blogs and vlogs, get lost in their worlds for a moment and enjoy the images, but if that blogger continues to make you feel bad about yourself / your life, perhaps it’s time to unfollow and unsubscribe. There’s plenty more fish in the sea.
For all those who are reading and thinking, ‘ermmmm, ain’t you the girl with a stash of Chanel handbags in your walk-in’. It’s true, I am, but I love them and re-wear them time and time again and they are the result of many birthdays, christmas’s and months of saving. I’m all about the ‘price per wear’ approach to fashion! Personally, I love re-wearing and restyling items, for me, it’s fun. It also brings back some really happy memories, for instance, I took this Karl Lagerfeld Handbag to New York last year and it was a great city bag. I can remember walking around Coney Island putting my souvenirs into it and being thankful that there was a tube of suncream floating around at the bottom of it (it was April and surprisingly sunny!). As for my ASOS Leopard Print Coat I wore this just a few weeks ago when I went to Paris with Christophe Robin, I can remember being at the Eurostar at 6am in the morning and thinking ‘Yep, it’s wayyyy too early in the morning for a coat like this!’. I like having memories attached to my clothes and I love sharing different ways to style them up. The moral of the story is, love your clothes and enjoy wearing them over and over and if that blogger no longer makes you feel good about your life and wardrobe… you know what to do!
