Home Renovations
So, where were we last time we spoke? Oh that’s right, we were ripping down the ceiling and trying to make it seem ‘romantic’ (remember the renovation scene in Ghost?) by wearing matching boiler suits. Regular readers might remember I compared it to being gunked on a children’s TV show; with 150 year old dust and grot, rather than lime green slime. There was no Pat Sharp in the room, nor a cockerel crowing telling me I had won the Power Prize, but we did it! When we were done, we did ‘cheered’ our crowbars together and said ‘Crowbars up!’…. just like the baddies in Home Alone. On that note, I’m not sure when my Saturdays went from partying with drag queens, to boiler suits and crowbars.
Entrance Hall
Anyhoooo, once the ceiling was down, the builders came along spent a good couple of weeks covering everywhere with plasterboard, plaster, paint and installing lots of tech into the ceiling; access points, speakers and Hive. It sounds insane to think that we have spent so much time and money working on an entrance hall, but it’s an unusually big reception room and a huge feature of the house. It has a 7foot fireplace, wood panelling throughout and a huge ornate wood staircase, so it was important to us this room was restored to it’s full glory. It’s note quite there yet, but it’s really starting to come together. We have even started picking our lighting (it turns out I have expensive taste) and I’m trying to convince my boyfriend that some kind of giant sculpture in the middle of the room will look amazing…. wish me luck!
That’s So VSCO
We spent the entire easter holiday laboriously ripping up the carpet on the stairs and sanding down each and every step. It took forever, but I have to admit by the end, it looked pretty good. It looked very ‘VSCO’, if I had *that* kind of instagram account, I would have been able to ‘gram it up a storm, but I don’t so I put it on my twitter instead, a girl has to stick to her theme! If you check this tweet (And this tweet) you can see the stairs for yourself and if you follow me on Instagram, you will see the progress as it happens in my stories. We are thinking of eventually painting the stairs white and having carpet runners down the middle of them. Fancy, eh?
The Good Bit
Finally, It’s taken us a long time to get here, but we are finally able to start thinking about the fun bit, accessorising! This weekend we headed out to one of our favourite antique shops to scope out some furniture and bits n bobs. We came home armed with retro board games and a pretty amazing vintage sideboard with a record player built into it (I know right?!). We have also done a fair bit of online shopping and picked up some amazing lamps, glasswear and rugs. But the things I am most excited about is the kitchenware we have acquired. We are now the proud owners of the most beautiful Fornasetti crockery I have ever seen (see images) and the most instagrammable cutlery in the world! I’ll be sharing more images of everything as it happens, so do keep an eye out for my twitter and IG stories, but in the mean time… how HOT is my table looking?!
