Margate Mermaid
The last year has been fairly tricky style-wise. We moved 75miles outside of London and bought a house in the beautiful seaside town of Margate. I love it here, but it’s not been all plain-sailing, I miss my friends living within a mile radius of me, I miss East London and my bank account has been permanently drained thanks to spending f-loads on building works, renovations and exciting things like tubs of paint and new radiators. Most of my clothes are still in storage and we have been kitchen-less for a good year now. I’m talking no washing machine, no oven and shock-horror, no fridge! Believe it or not, it’s actually possible to live without a fridge, especially in the winter when it’s so freakin’ cold that room-temperature is basically fridge-temperature. However, it does mean instead of eating a spoonful of hummus, I eat the whole damn tube because warm hummus is no-ones friend. Between my clothes being in-storage, my weekends filled with DIY and renovations projects (goodbye manicure!) and the lack of fridge, I do feel a little self-conscious that I have piled on the weight and I miss my staple dresses for those ‘What do I wear days’. However, the most important thing is to be happy, healthy and moving on with your life rather than stressing about a stuck zipper here and there. Although I should probably use this a little more often… Kardashian style!

Anyway, the point I was starting to make, before I rambled on, is that this outfit feels like an old-school look for me. I used to be obsessed with prom dresses and prom-skirts, I wore then everywhere from indie clubs to art class. I’m pretty sure I owned something very similar to this back in the day, although I probably would have styled it with a bit of lace and a tiara back then, but now, I’m pairing it with a casual tee-shirt and duster coat to give it a more casual feel. I couldn’t be happier with how beautifully the fabric of the skirt matches my Aspinal Of London Lottie Handbag too, all the shimmer, it’s like a multicoloured-mermaid dream! Oh and FYI, the ASOS Ruffle Skirt is currently on sale and I’m not sure the product shot does it justice, so take a chance and order yourself one before they sell out!
