Why I never bought the Chanel GST
You always want the things you can’t have right??? That’s totally me! A few years ago I was in the Chanel store buying a bag when a woman near me was dressed all in black trying out the Chanel GST (Grand Shopping Tote). I nudged my boyfriend and said ‘that looks amazing on her’. As soon as she was out of sight (didn’t want to appear to be copying obvs). I tried it on myself and whilst I liked it, I wasn’t going to leave the shop with two handbags so I bought the one I had been previously looking at. That Christmas, I was in store and I spotted the GST in a red, a limited edition colour for the season. It was stunning and I wanted it! My boyfriend wrote down the code, had a word with the SA and he was ready to ‘surprise’ me. He ended up not surprising me as there was a death in the family and Christmas didn’t really happen that year. Sometimes it’s just not appropriate to spend four-figures on a bag when there’s tragedy in the air.
The next time we went in store, the red GST had sold out and the classic colours were all that remained. Once I had seen the red, I didn’t want black any more. I kept popping in to look at the options but I never saw a coloured one I loved as much and then… The worst happened! The GST got discontinued and finding a cute coloured GST was the least of my problems, now I couldn’t even get black. Hell. Even the boring beige had vanished!
On The Hunt
I told myself I didn’t care, I told myself I didn’t need another Chanel bag. I even gave myself a lecture about how the bags I already have are better than this one. I even convinced myself that the GST was impractical because it’s heavy to carry. But quite frankly… The heart wants what it wants and I’m still gutted I don’t have the Chanel GST. It’s a beautiful handbag, it’s roomy and stylish with a cool retro vibe. I haven’t set myself any New Years Resolutions, but I have told myself this: this year, my friends, I’m going to get one! Wish me luck!
