Penhaligon’s Oud de Nil is the latest edition to the Trade Routes Collection. This collection captures different elements of a fantasy journey around the world, from ports to markets, the textiles, spices, flowers, antiques and treasures. Oud de Nil is inspired but the majestic Nile and it’s many historic journeys. Imagine the clean white robes billowing in the dry, hot, desert wind, with the scent of jasmine, exotic fruits and precious woods.

I am a huge fan of Penhaligon’s fragrances, but the Trade Routes Collection, is always my favourite, every fragrance within the collection is magical, from the softer, more feminine fragrances like Empressa, which is filled with notes of silk, fruits, vanilla and cedarwood, to the richer, darker fragrances like As Sawira, which is filled with myrrh, amber, oud, rose and spices. Each fragrance in this collection is complex, exciting, mysterious and magical. They really do transport you to another time and another place.
Penhaligon’s Oud de Nil is the latest addition to the Trades Routes collection and it is another winning fragrance. It opens with a burst of smoky freshness from the bergamot and the sharp grapefruit, which have a real aquatic feel to them, very quickly you start to feel the warm rich florals of the jasmine, rose and orange blossom, each one is exotic, heady and textured. The base of the fragrance is rich, dark and powerful, filled with smoky oud, sweet intoxicating resins. Oud fragrances tend to be quite heavy, dark and rich, however, Penhaligon’s Oud de Nil is slightly lighter, it is smoky and deep, but there is a freshness and a translucency to it, a softness which almost fuses together the soft aquatic notes of minimalist fragrances and the rich, opulence of an oud fragrance, but with a little extra Penhaligon’s magic. I may have never been to Egypt or sailed down the River Nile on a ship, but with this fragrance, I can imagine it and sometimes that’s almost as much fun!
