Fragrance: Jo Loves ‘Smoked Plum & Leather’

Jo Loves Smoked Plum & Leather

I love riding horses in Montana each summer, and have bottled so many incredible scents; from the heat of the sun as it hits the saddle, to the smoke which signals the end of each day. This warm, earthy and sophisticated fragrance instantly brings those memories to life

Jo Loves Smoked Plum & Leather

In Review…

Before I start, people often get a little confused by Jo Malone London and Jo Loves, so I thought I would quickly explain. Jo Malone founded the brand Jo Malone London, which she grew from her kitchen into a global brand, she sold the company to Estée Lauder Companies in 1999 and stayed on until 2006 as the creative director. She had some time out and then realised how much she loved creating fragrance and she then founded her new brand, Jo Loves. She has one shop in London’s Elizabeth Street, she has a selection of fragrances and also hosts events creating bespoke fragrances, candles (in the Candle Shot Studio) and hosting Fragrance Tapas events. I was lucky enough to make a Candle Shot last year with Jo, which you can read about here.

Now it’s time to chat about the latest fragrance in the Jo Loves Collection, Smoked Plum & Leather. Jo Loves fragrances tend to be quite simple in their composition with only two or three main accords which often contrast beautifully to bring out the best in each other.  Smoked Plum & Leather has it’s trademark simplicity, but with a little extra at the top, Plum Liqueur is quite rich and full in it’s own right, before the heart and base notes mingle in. The fragrance might be inspired by horse riding in the Montana desert, but it’s giving me all kinds of decadent winter party vibes, maybe it’s the time of year, but it’s making me think of fruity, juicy liqueurs flowing, silk and velvet dresses, rich wood mahogany bars with leather trim tables and well worn leather chesterfields. I love the sweet, spicy cinnamon with the sweet, alcoholic plum liqueur. The base is rich, opulent and leathery, it’s wonderfully rich and glamorous, but still has the Jo Loves essence of freshness and the closeness to the raw material. I’m sure if I smelt this fragrance in summer it would give me much more deserty, leather, cowboy vibes, but for now, I’m loving the opulence and splendour of the perfect evening, drinking the night away in a private bar of an old London hotel with close friends. If you are new to Jo Loves, please do go to the Elizabeth Street to discover a little more about Jo Malone’s new brand, it’s really rather wonderful.

Jo Loves Smoked Plum & Leather is available from and it is priced at £65 for a 50ml bottle, £110 for a 100ml bottle.
