Van Cleef & Arpels So First

Van Cleef & Arpels First is a perfumery classic, it was released in 1976 and it is still loved by women worldwide. It’s famed for its rich, feminine aldehydic floral notes. To celebrate the 40th Birthday of this iconic fragrance, Van Cleef & Arpels have reimagined First and created a new fragrance So First, capturing it’s classic sophiatication but giving it a slightly fresher more modern feel.

In Review…

I am a huge fan of Van Cleef & Arpels First, However, I understand it’s not for everyone as it has a very ‘classic’ feel to it. You know what I mean; those heavy, rich floral notes, similar to the kind you find in Chanel No. 5 and Hermes Calèche. Personally, I love it, but I understand it’s not quite in-line with the sweet, sickly fruity-florals which are popular right now. First has so much more glamour, depth and grandeur to it.

On first spritz, I thought So First fell into a ‘generic fruity floral’ category, but within seconds I was hit with a blend of aldehydes and powdery tones which make the fragrance unique, glamorous, vintage and sophisticated. Yes, it has the fresh bergamot, pretty florals and rich, sweet vanilla that you will find in a classic fruity-floral, but it has a lot of dusty pink tones to it as well. The kind of tones I love as they feel so classic and elegant, but they softer and more subtle than those you will find in First. I’m really excited about this perfume, it’s a lovely every day fragrance, particularly lovely for the summer. I will still always adore First, but So First is a lovely, modern addition to the family!

Van Cleef & Arpels So First will be launched exclusively in Harrods on 28th August 2016. From 12th September 2016 it will be available at select department stores such as Selfridges and John Lewis.
