Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow Palette
DISCLAIMER: This post is full of bad puns about outerspace. I just couldn’t help myself!
You know how Instagram makes everything look amazing? Well, this is one of those instances where the IRL version of something is so much better and so much hotter, I can’t even begin to explain. Over the past few weeks I have seen people go wild for this palette on Instagram and I thought it looked amazing. So good I had to have it, but damn, it’s so much better in the flesh. No photo, #nofilter, no instavid or boomerang or anything else can make this palette look half as amazing as it really is.
Packaging
So first of all, the palette box is awesome, it’s black with silver sparkles plastic casing with cutaway lettering to reveal the word ‘moondust’ in mirror beneath. I haven’t seen any other brand else do anything quite as cool as this in a while and it’s really a dressing table showpiece. As for the mirror on the inside, it’s large and high quality. I would love for it to have contained a brush in the palette, but let’s be honest, we all have oodles of eyeshadow brushes already.
Eyeshadows
This palette contains eight colours some of which are new (Lightyear and Galaxy) and others which have been seen before. Each colour is super sparkly with microfine specs of glitter which have amazing depth and texture to them and have this kind of 3D radiance to them. This isn’t 90’s kiddie glitter make-up nor is it festival sparkles, this is modern disco make-up, part futuristic with a 70’s space-race-disco-dancing twist.
Perfect For…
In a perfect world, I would use this palette to create a ombre rainbow effect, however, I’m not that skilled / brave / cool. I struggle to make those kind of looks work for me and for the life of me, I can’t make both eyes match! Instead I have been using this palette to add a little glitzy colour to my lids. The lightest shade (top left, Specter) is perfect for under the brow bone, across the lids and even on the cheekbone. I have used the darker shades in the crease of my eyes to add a little contour to my eyes which I love (best worn with lashings of mascara for a much more dramatic look). I have found if I apply the colours with quite a think, loose brush, I can sweep a fairly small amount over my eyes for a more subtle, day time look. Of course with a good primer (the iconic Urban Decay one, of course!) you can really pile the colour on and make it buildable to create a much more exciting, festival / party look! It’s a really fun palette to play with, both for every day sparkles, as well as party looks. It might look like an adventurouis palette, but actually, the colours are more versatile than you might think!
This palette is costs £35 from Urban Decay and it’s worth every earthling penny as the colours and sparkly finish are literally out of this world! You won’t find a dupe which even compares to it and it’s so radiant and luxe looking, also for more everyday subtle looks you only need a tiny amount, so it will last for lightyears! I wish with all my heart I could capture it’s magic in photos, but it sparkles SO HARD it is almost impossible to photograph! OK. I’m done now, sorry for all the bad puns!
