I’m so excited, Malin+Goetz are due to open their first UK stores very soon, the first on Upper Street, Islington, the second in central London’s Monmouth Street, Covent Garden. Malin+Goetz are an iconic New York brand, famed for their award winning formulas, celebrity fans and simple, stylish aesthetic. Right, let’s get down to business, Malin+Goetz Bergamot is a unisex fragrance, so of course I have worn it myself and offered it up to my boyfriend to trial too, it’s a risky game, as if he likes to too much, I may never see it again. However, I do think it’s important to trial it on both of our skins. First of all, I love the bottle, it’s cool, modern and really chic. The fragrance is exactly the same. Whilst it’s main accord is bergamot, it is supported by fresh citrus notes and hints of spice (not a floral to be found FYI!). The perfume bursts open with a fresh and exciting blend of citrus, everything from lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, mandarin and lime, it’s powerful, clean and super-uplifting. It quickly becomes a little smoky and a little more exotic and mysterious with spices mingling in with the fresh citrus, whilst it’s still super fresh, it is also very refined and chic. Once the citrus and spicy notes dry down you will find a woody base of amber, sandalwood, cedarwood and musk. On hot, sticky days in London this is the only fragrance I wan to wear. It’s uplifting, clean, fresh and leaves me feeling revitalised, however, it’s so much more than just a crisp, citrus fragrance, it has so many layers and so much depth thanks to the spice and woods. As I mentioned, both myself and my boyfriend have been wearing this one and it smells pretty similar on both our skin, it doesn’t really differ too much, but it is a fragrance we both love, especially on hot days. Go try it, pop into one of their new stores and give it a whirl, but be warned, you will fall in love with their super cool NYC brand!
