Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli perfume fragrance review collection extraordinaire

Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli

An ode to an iconic ingredient in perfumery, Moonlight Patchouli emerges between shadow and light.

A moment of mystery, this mixed fragrance was composed to echo the poetic vision of the moon illuminating the night with its halo.

My Thoughts

I am a huge fan of the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire; each one focuses on a raw ingredient and uses other fragrance notes to support the main accord. Much like a pearl is supported by a shell, the other fragrance notes are there to draw attention to the main accord; giving it extra texture, support and highlighting it’s natural beauty. The latest addition to Collection Extraordinaire is Moonlight Patchouli. Patchouli is a commonly used material in perfume, it is normally found at the base of a perfume as it has a powdery, woody feel to it, which can be both mysterious and sensual. Van Cleef & Arpels have blended Patchouli with dark woods, rich florals and leather notes to create Moonlight Patchouli. It might sound like quite a feminine fragrance with the iris, rose and powdery notes, however, this fragrance is unisex and between my boyfriend and I, it actually suits his skin much better than my own. On his skin, it quickly takes on leathery, suede and woody accords. The florals are detectible, but they just add a little depth to the fragrance rather than feeling feminine. Somehow it feels like a waste when I wear it, as it’s just not as beautiful on my skin on his. Moonlight Patchouli is beautiful on a man, it’s rich, warm, super-sensual and filled with woody, leathery notes. If you are looking for a new fragrance for your man, this could be the one, it’s familiar, yet unique and really quite special.

Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli is exclusive to Harrods from 15th May 2016 & available nationwide at selected department stores from 4th July 2016.
