Les Cocottes de Paris Melle Cléo
Harmony, precision, classlcism, style and restraint are the values Cléo de Merode acquired at the Paris opera. But her controlled appearance conceals a more ambiguous nature. Like a fierce hetaira, she stands out in a sort of brothel that has become the foyer of the ballet school. She was considered the world’s most beautiful woman In 1896. An absolute star, she captured her contemporaries’ Imagination.
Top Notes: Rosewood, Bergamot, Lychee
Heart Notes: Night blooming Cereus, Ylang Ylang, Rose
Base notes: Cotton flower, Lichen
Les Cocottes de Paris have three fragrances in their collection, each one based on the Queens of Paris, a group of nineteenth-century courtesans who made headlines with their style, beauty and exploits. Melle Cléo is the most feminine of the three fragrances, she was a beautiful ballet dancer and as a result this perfume is filled with elegance, softness and a hint of mischief. It opens with soft notes of Rosewood, Bergamot and Lychee, very feminine, exotic, naturally sweet and pretty. The heart is floral, with heady Rose, Ylang Ylang and Night blooming Cereus (a flowering cacti), I have a feeling there is some jasmine and a hint of orange blossom hidden there too. At the base there is cotton flower and lichen, but the best way to describe the base is a blend of talc, musk, vanilla and patchouli. It has a wonderful softness to it, each note seems to be slightly translucent and even though it has the feel of pink to it, this isn’t sugar-coated-candy-sweetness, instead it’s pink hues of fine silk, ballet slippers, lace, feathers, make-up, lingerie, vintage powder puffs and rose cocktails. I normally avoid soft, feminine fragrances, but this is so special, I have fallen head over heels in love with it, it’s filled backstage glamour of dressing rooms from a bygone era and it oozes glamour which makes is so unique. Oh la la! I love it!
