Fragrance Combining
Jo Malone London fragrances can be layered up with bath and body products or another perfume to create something a little more complex and unique to the wearer. Black Cedarwood & Juniper can be combined with Lime Basil & Mandarin to give it a fresher feel, it gives the dark wood a herby, citrus twist. It can also be combined with Wood Sage & Sea Salt to give the heavy wood a slightly fresher, more aquatic feel. Also it is a nice way to wear Wood Sage & Sea Salt in the winter months as this fragrance is so beautiful for Summer, but for me a little light for Winter. Jo Malone London Black Cedarwood & Juniper gives you the option to wear it all year round.
My Thoughts
Jo Malone London Black Cedarwood & Juniper was originally launched around two years ago as part of the Rain Collection. Each perfume in this collection had a fresh, aquatic feel, each one inspired by rain at different times of the day, Black Cedarwood & Juniper was inspired by midnight rain which had a sexier, darker feel, with it’s dark woods and spicy cumin. Due to popular demand, Black Cedarwood & Juniper has been reintroduced to the main collection. Whilst all the Jo Malone London fragrances are classified as unisex, some of them (for instance Peony & Blush Suede) do have a more feminine feel, Black Cedarwood & Juniper is one which I happily wear and as would my boyfriend. It has a very dark, spicy woody feel which really make an impact with it’s dark sharpness, however, this is beautifully balanced by the fresh Juniper to give it a little fruity freshness. I love dark woody fragrances and this one is perfect for summer as it has a wonderful hit of freshness to it. For me, it sits perfectly, with my own personal love of dark, mysterious fragrances, yet the aquatic freshness means it can be worn during the height of summer when all my other perfumes feel oppressive. As for the men, this fragrance sits perfectly on the shelf next to his bottle of 154, Wild Fig & Cassis and Amber & Lavender. On my boyfriends skin it has a real dark, sexy feel to it and almost has some leathery notes to it. I’m so happy this fragrance is back on the shelves, ladies who love something a little darker, woodier and spicier will love this fragrance and men will love it too. I’m super-tempted to try layering this fragrance up with a little Red Roses too, as I think it will give it a velvety floral twist.
Jo Malone London Black Cedarwood & Juniper is available from June 2016 and it is available as a handbag friendly 30ml bottle as well as a 100ml classic sized bottle from Jo Malone London, John Lewis and Selfridges.
