My Thoughts
First of all, for those who were wondering, a Calyx is the protective covering of a flower bud, the little green leaves that wrap tightly around the petals before they blossom. Which probably gives you a clue as to what this perfume smells like, fruity and floral in a very fresh, green way. At the top of this fragrance you will find tropical fruits, papaya, guava, grapefruit, mango and passion fruit, all delicious, all warm and exotic and infused with a heavy hit of green leaves. The heart is made up of florals, some classic (rose, freesia) others exotic (rose, neroli). The base is full of woody oakmoss and sandalwood, with slightly violety orris. The overall feel of the fragrance is a glorious fresh, fruity floral which has been plucked straight from nature. It has aquatic notes which remind me of English Springtime dew, mixed with a sense of Summer travel and exotic locations. The fruits are zesty, sharp and unexpected, the florals are warm, heady and filled with green freshness. This perfume can easily be worn by a man or a woman, for me it’s a day time fragrance and it lifts my mood and leaves me feeling fresh and filled with excitement for Spring.
Calyx was launched in 1986 as a fresh, modern perfume for a new generation. Almost 30 years on, this perfume is still being manufactured and it’s still fresh and exciting.
