Stephen Webster X Tracey Emin

Stephen Webster X Tracey Emin

Just a few months ago, I packed my bags and left East London (it had been my home for the last 8 years) and bought a beautiful new home in Margate. I love East London, but like a lot of other people, I got sick of tubes, traffic and all my favourite brunch venues being fully booked. Of course, there are things I miss; my friends, the proximity to Chanel, Bistrotheque and all the street art. Luckily for me, I quickly discovered Margate is a huge destination for street art, meaning I still get to take many of my outfit photos in front of colourful walls.

 Turner Contemporary

One of the major reasons we picked Margate as our new home is because like East London, it has a multitude of art. The Turner Contemporary art gallery is just a stones throw from my house, there is also a whole host on independent shops and galleries, vintage and salvage shops and plenty of ever-changing street art. Also East London, doesn’t have a beach!

‘I Never Stopped Loving You’

Of course, I knew Tracey Emin grew up in Margate, my degree is in Fine Art and until recently, it was one of the few things I knew about the area, after all, she called herself ‘Mad Tracey of Margate’. Whilst I knew she lived here and championed the opening of the Turner Contemporary art gallery, I didn’t actually know there was any of her artwork on display here. Then one day, I was walking past Droit House on the Harbour Arm and saw the distinctive slanted handwriting of Tracey Emin above the columns. It wasn’t obvious as it was a sunny afternoon and not lit up in pink neon, but of course, I knew what it was. ‘I Never Stopped Loving You’, a declaration of Love to her home town, she’s seen the good times and the bad and many of the memories she draws up in her artwork, were created here. I bloody love Tracey Emin.

Amazing! Definitely more chic and simple than I would have imagined, but great collaboration.
