Social Media: #BeYou

treaclemoon bulliesout #BeYou campaign

I love the internet and I love social media, however, there is of course a dark side to it; Bullies and trolls. I got my first troll about 12 months ago, they said my hands were fat and my Instagram account was stupid (or something to a similar effect). For a moment, my heart sank, it’s true, I’m not skinny and I don’t feel pretty, I also have some questionable accessories. I never expected to get trolled for it though! For a few weeks I avoided doing outfit of the day photos, and any close up social media photos of my hands, legs or well, anything. I kind of lost my instagram mojo, I no longer wanted to post things that I loved in case people told me my choices were stupid.

Then I Got Over It…

The thing is, I love colour, laughing, eating, socialising and spending way too much money on ridiculous accessories. That’s just me! I could have bought a classic Louis Vuitton Speedy bag, but instead I got the Noe. Most people would buy the black Chanel bag, I bought the green. Do you know what else? I will always choose a cat shaped handbag over a fringed suede bag, because it’s just more fun. That’s who I am! Sometimes you just have to think ‘f**k it, I’m fabulous, despite all my many, many flaws’ and remember that those who are laughing are unkind and drab.

#BeYou

BulliesOut is an anti-bullying charity who work with individuals, schools, colleges and communities to provide education and support to thousands of young people. They help people see their own self-worth and potential, so that they can progress in caring environments. Charities like BulliesOut have never been so relevant, bullying is more of a problem than ever, as it is no longer just in schools, it’s on social media, emails and phones now too. I was told about BulliesOut by my friends at Treaclemoon as they are proud supporters of the charity, they donate money every month and help raise awareness as part of their own #BeYou Campaign.  To learn more about BulliesOut, head over to their website and if you want to help, you can buy merchandise from their shop or donate via Just Giving. You can also get involved on social media by posting an inspirational quote or a fun photo of yourself doing something that makes you, well you! If you use the #BeYou and tag @treaclemoon_uk, you could be in with a chance of winning some Treaclemoon goodies too! Also, make your way over to my Twitter account where I will be hosting a competition to win Treaclemoon goodies.

And Finally…

Remember, social media should be fun, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it and if you see someone getting hate (blogger or not) step in and give support. It makes the victim feel lot better to feel some love after a few unkind comments.

I’ve followed your blog for a while, but usually too much of a hurry to comment. But I had to leave a note after reading your post today. I know it’s a cliche to say, but whoever left you that nasty-gram on Insta had to be so jealous and hateful. What a terrible cold shock it is to see words like that on one’s posts.
You portray someone who is successful, with a happy, busy life and a fiancée who adores you. You have amazing, unconventional taste in accessories and clothes. And let’s admit you have a VERY enviable collection of HF clothes and jewelry.
I can just imagine someone who is a mean, ugly person seeing all of this and trying to dig in to find something you could possibly be insecure about. Just treat it as dust off your shoulder.
I’m quite sure you’ve moved on, but just know there are people across the world (California!) who adore your taste and could care less about your clothing size. Keep on posting!
