Van Cleef & Arpels Ambre Imperial

Inspired by a dreamlike journey through the Orient, Ambre Impérial is a celebration of one of the most luxurious ingredients in perfumery. Sensual amber is glorified by the precious aromas of vanilla, benzoin and roasted tonka bean whilst pink pepper and bergamot add a charismatic freshness.

Notes

Top Notes: Pink pepper, Bergamot

Heart Notes: Benzoin, Amber

Base Notes: Vanilla, Tonka bean

My Thoughts

Van Cleef & Arpels Ambre Imperial is really rather special. It kind of reminds of me Balmain Extatic, but less rock ‘n’ roll and a little more refined. The top notes of pink pepper and bergamot are fairly subtle and I feel like the scent goes straight to the heart notes of blended resins (amber). The base notes of vanilla and tonka bean are quite heavy and together with the amber take on almost a smooth caramel. I feel like there might also be very slight powdery notes and maybe a soft wood or cashmere at the base too. It’s not sugary sweet, instead it’s rich and delightful. It’s quite a soft, subtle scent, which is perfect as if it was too strong it might be sickly and overpowering. That being said, it is noticeable and it does last all day long. It’s like creme brûlée at The Ritz, fancy, delicious and a real treat!
