Five Easy Ways To Accessorise Your Living Room

Recently I have been thinking a lot about home design; colours, textures, furniture and all those things I have never really considered before. Over the past few weeks, I have had meetings with flooring experts, kitchen designers and an architect and I have learnt two things. The first being, that I want a beautiful home fit for Pinterest. The second being that I have not enough cash to make my dreams a reality. Damn! It’s time to start living within my means, with that in mind…

Five Easy Ways To Accessorise Your Living Room

Throws & Cushions

Fact: Every sofa looks cuter with a throw and a few cushions! Fold a throw over the back of the chair, or drape over the arms for a more casual look. Add a few cushions and your sofa is instantly more stylish, it’s also cosier! My throw is by George Home.

Candles

I’m a huge fan of a good scented candle, I love the light they give off and of course, I love the way they fill my home with fragrance. If your candle comes in a cool looking jar, put it on display on your coffee table. You might not have any intention of burning it for a few weeks but that’s ok, until you are ready, it can just hang out in your living room with you! My candle is by Bella Freud (shop the range at Very Exclusive). It’s named 1970 and it smells like glamorous incense!

Magazines

Whilst coffee table books are lovely, magazines make a great alternative and often a little neater too. If your magazine is last weeks/month, or you don’t like the front cover, open it up to a page you do like for that ‘oh, you caught my doing my research’ kind of look!

Lamp

When my boyfriend first moved in my flat he went on and on about how I didn’t have a lamp in the living room and he hated the fact we used the big light in the evening. He bought a lamp and I quickly replaced it for a cuter one! A lamp is a nice ornament for the day and it gives a nice soft light in the evening. Double win! My lamp is by George Home.

Props

In the same way your sofa needs a little ‘dressing’ with a throw and cushions, so does your coffee table and shelves. I’m currently really into terrariums, as they have a nice height and their glass gives a feeling a space and light. You can plant a cactus in it, or accessorise with cute item. My Terrarium is by George Home and inside I placed a small travel candle.
